My wedding is October 1, 2016. Last night, I took a few people to go wedding dress shopping for the 2nd time at David's Bridal. I had no high hopes for finding a dress at David's Bridal since I never heard any good reviews about it. Color me surprised, when the last dress I tried on was perfect. I had my "wedding dress moment" and cried. So, I said yes to the dress. Upon ordering it & paying for it (final sale), I realized that my consultant did not order my dress in petite. (I'm 4'11, I NEED a petite). So, I called this morning to change my order for a Petite size, but now my dress won't be arriving till August 09 (at the latest!). That gives me less than 2 months with the dress without any alterations. David's Bridal assured me that though it's cutting it close, I would be able to have a fitting and alterations the week my dress comes in and have it before my wedding. I NEED PEACE OF MIND. Can someone give me any advice or words of encouragement that I'll have a wedding dress?!

You should be fine! My wedding is in May and when I picked up my dress they told me not to sch alterations until early April. (So I set it up for April 1 because I was worried it wasn't early enough lol)

Even if it comes at that date, you still have enough time for alterations. Don't worry.

You don't want to do your alterations TOO early.

My dress came in much earlier than they told me it would. I was told it would take over 2 months and it was in 5 weeks later. They give you the worst-case scenario date to save their butts.

Generally, seamstresses only need a month with your dress. (realistically they probably only work on it for a day or two)

Again - you have lots of time! Deep breaths!

It's totally ok. Their dresses usually arrive ahead of time anyway. My dress, not from DB but another bridal salon, will be arriving in August as well. I was worried that was cutting it too close but the sales lady assured me it's plenty of time.

Do you need to have your dress early? (Serious question.). Or are you ok with getting it just before your wedding? I've seen both. Anyway, cutting it close, yes, but I'm sure you'll have it in time.

While I did not get my dress at David's, here's my story... I went dress shopping at the end of January for my September 25, 2015 wedding. They told me I was cutting it close but if I order soon, should be ok. I ordered within a week or two; beginning of February. They called me around June/July that it was in, but didn't have to go for a fitting until mid August. I needed the top taken in, cups put in, a bustle, and most important, hem this scalloped edge lace dress. Wedding in about 4 weeks and they assured me I had time, I was worried!

In the end, it was done and everything was fine. Fortunately, I didn't need to pick it up early; only picked it up the day before my wedding.

There might be some shady characters out there but I don't think a store would tarnish their reputation by letting a bride down. Maybe have them write something on the receipt or something? I know it's easy for me to say relax, and I'm not being flip about it, but relax; you will have it in time. Smiley smile

I would make an appointment at a local place soon so that you have one booked. You're prime wedding season so they could have a full schedule of by the time you get the dress. Explain the situation and just say you want to book your first fitting for Aug 12 or worm thing. That way you're on the books!

You'll be fine. My wedding was in October, and I started alterations mid-August. Plenty of time.

Like others have said, it's plenty of time. I'm getting married the week after you and my bridal shop said to make my first fitting mid August. I'm sure your dress will come in early anyway!

My wedding is the same day as yours!!! My junior bridesmaid ordered her dress from there to match the older girls in the wedding. Her dress won't be here until August as well. Apparently special sizes take longer!!! Smiley sad I am sure you will be fine. they will make it work.

Also, my wedding dress was not From David's bridal but I ordered in in February. The store predicted that it will be here at the beggining of June but it could take up to 9 months!!! It's crazy that it takes so long :/

Mine wasn't suppose to arrive (also Petite) until May 23rd. It arrived 3 weeks ago (also from David's). My MOH's dress arrived a month early also.
