Wedding Destination - Could I ever be more overwhelmed?

Raissa, on June 17, 2016 at 12:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 24

1- I want a beach wedding but not by the beach (sand). It feels like theres not much options when it comes to gazebo wedding in the all inclusive resorts :/

2- Block rooms: Travel agent vs directly with hotel. The thing is the price that both are giving is much much much more expensive than when my guests do a simple google search on expedia per exemple.

3- the block rooms doesn't give a package with flights. None of my guests want to do that. they all believe getting a package (flight resort) altogether is always cheaper and better.

4-The resorts with gazebos do not have a nice swimmable beach. hellooo isn't it cancun supposed to have nice beaches all over?(i have never been). So im having a second thought and maybe doing in jamaica?

5-guests coming from Toronto, Vancouver, NYC, boston, Illinois and Brasil. How to accommodate them into groups to have group benefits if they are all over?

ANYONE ????Any advice is welcome!

Well.... I'm having my DW in Cancun, on a gazebo not the actual beach. There are actually many places that have very nice beaches and gazebos look at Dreams Riviera Cancun, Hyatt Ziva, Hard Rock Riviera Maya and Moon Palace.

Use a travel agent! They get group rates and perks for travel groups which benefits you!

    Good Luck!

Where are you getting married? I am getting married in NC. The place we are having our reception (they also do ceremonies, but ours is at a Catholic church instead) is in a pier house. It is on the beach but not in the sand. Maybe you can find something similar?

You might want to get planning. For a destination wedding in Feb save the dates should have already been sent out or be sent out soon. Most people need time to plan and save for a trip to Mexico. ETA you also might run into venues already booked for Feb.

Check out the Royal in Playa Del Carmen. It's about an hour away from Cancun. We're getting married there in September 2017 in their oceanfront gazebo and we actually went there a couple years ago and loved it. It's all inclusive too

Actually the Hyatt Ziva, Hard Rock and Moon Palace are my top choices however all the reviews from Moon Palace are very scary :/ (From the dirty pool, bad beach to having too many weddings in one day, it gets worse by each review i read). The Hyatt on the other hand has the most GORGEOUS gazebo and Im waiting for their reply (it has been quite a few days already and make me wonder how the conversation would go). The dreams has sort of an Indian gazebo (not my style). And hard rock is on my list but it has being a bit pricey when getting just the block room price without the flights. So im trying to find new options where my guests can get the entire package they can afford. Thank you so much !!

where will you be having your wedding?

The date has a meaning for us since its our anniversary, valentines day and wedding day so it would be a special week every year, as a couple, to get away to celebrate just the 2 of us ( leaving kids behind with grandparents) so we are kinda of having this in mind for the future.

Thank you Nicole ill look into the Royal right now.

    Caroline, what NC means?

Alyssa, i was thinking that 20 people coming from toronto would get a group rating, no? then 10 people from nyc, another group rate? Thats what i had in mind but not sure if its the right way of thinking. Thank you.

Katherine, i have already told my guests (since its mostly close friends and family) that we are getting married in that week.Just haven't decided the place so they could start getting organized. Smiley smile

I'm also having a beach wedding without having it on the sand. We are having the wedding at Fort Fisher Historic site, in North Carolina, with the ceremony in a grassy area, under a bunch of willowy, gnarly trees and the ocean is directly behind us. However, the location also offers two gazebos. Where are you located?

We ended up changing our destination, but we were originally planning to get married at Cozumel Palace in Cozumel, Mexico. The weddings there are done in a gazebo. We have friends who got married there and they highly recommend it.

@kristen we were looking at the Cozumel Palace too before we decided on going back to the Royal. It looked absolutely gorgeous but the resort doesn't have beach access does it?

I'm at the Hyatt Ziva next June. I went to visit the property and it was amazing! If you need to contact someone check out the Playaresorts.com weddings tab. I can also give you the name of my contact there.

@ Nicole, I don't think it has access to a sandy beach like what you're thinking of. I do think there are beaches like that in Cozumel though if you don't mind doing things outside of the resort.

Hey Ashley, I would love the contact from Hyatt Ziva. Its definitely a gorgeous gazebo they have there.. not sure about the resort itself and other amenities since i have never been and from the reviews, I believe they beach is very beautiful and clean for swimming.

Alyssa, I was looking into Turks and caicos. From my first research the prices for cancun was around 1500/2000dol per person JUST THE ROOM. So i thought that for this price many people would not be happy to go to cancun paying that amount of money when they can always get deals for much much much less i the same resort through expedia. But then, if it was this price but going somewhere like jamaica, or turks or bahamas.. that would be acceptable. You know what I mean ? I just feel like if i should try to put myself in their place, if was a guest knowing theres a wedding at X resort and going as a group would be 2k, but getting a deal on expedia (per example) could end up being 1k. Why would i want to have a block room ? i juts don't get the whole idea... maybe is something Im not seeing, but i only can see an advantage/benefits for the brides and groom from having better wedding packages. not so much for the guests. thoughts?

I'm getting married in North Carolina on the outer banks. We're doing a soundside ceremony - the island is narrow enough that you have ocean to sound views.

The Sanderling Inn in Duck also has a dunetop deck they use for weddings that might be an option worth looking into.

There are a lot of resorts that offer wedding ceremonies overlooking the beach, but not in sand. A lot are on terraces and decks. In the Riviera Maya, one that I know of is Sandos Playacar, which has an option in the grass at the edge of the beach.

I'm having my wedding right on the beach in Mexico next year at Now Jade Riviera Cancun. They have a deck overlooking the beach under a pergola, too.

It might be cheaper to get a flight + hotel package, but it's hard to do that when they are flying from different locations. Plus, they might have airline preferences or miles to use. You should definitely find a travel agent that specializes in group vacations and destination weddings, they can help you find the best rates and help with the process.

We went to Riviera Maya on vacation and stayed at the Grand Palladium. They do beach weddings and have a gazebo on the beach, an arbor, and an actual chapel on the grounds but away from the beach itself where you can get married, and it's all beautiful! They also had a great beach and it was a group of 5 resorts, so LOTS of options room-wise, as well as easily available on package places like Cheap Caribbean and Apple Vacations. Sounds like it would be a good fit for you.

We also saw a few weddings there, and they would hold the receptions in their a la carte restaurants, so you didn't actually pay for the meal/drinks, but just the dancing part/DJ, and the actual package, making it super cheap.
