Wedding Cake Vs Wedding Cupcakes

Kennyeh, on June 1, 2017 at 10:19 PM Posted in Planning 0 55

So I really want to have wedding cupcakes. Color theme is red and blue with a touch of gold and I've seen beautiful cupcake towers with these colors and I'm a fan. I believe cupcakes are a lot cleaner, easy to share, and same portion for everyone. But I feel like they will be more pricy since the baker would have to focus on a # of individual cupcakes and I don't know how popular they are for weddings. Has anyone tried cupcakes and/or what do you guys think of the idea?

I know a lot of people have gone the cupcake route, however I really don't care for them. They tend to bring a bit of a 'birthday party ' feel to weddings.

I'm doing cupcakes as well!!! So much easier, no cutting an entire cake!

I made 5 different flavors for my sister's wedding. People loved them. I always make 2 per person. We had a tower as well.

I'm doing cupcakes, my venue doesn't provide someone to cut the cake (no, not even for a cost) and I wasn't into making someone do it. Plus I liked the flavor variety.

Also, just gonna throw out there I would hate blue frosting as a guest. I'm just imagining blue mouths...

They only look like a "birthday" , of you make them look like it.

I'm not a fan because to me, cupcakes make me think of kids' birthday parties. I know not everyone agrees with that though.

I also love the statement that a beautiful tiered wedding cake makes when looking at it.

I know I few people who did them and people loved it. I'm not much of a cake/cupcake/frosting person so I usually pass on dessert

I'm more of a fan of cake instead of cupcakes. And I wouldn't like blue icing either.

I was thinking about doing cupcakes but stuck with the traditional wedding cake. You can have cupcakes anytime; but a wedding cake... well, that's once in a lifetime!

Not a fan. Brings back memories from when I ate one of the cupcakes too soon (before they made a formal announcement) ...this is what happens when the mother of the bride insists we try a cupcake. Bride got mad and said "OmG do you all cut into a real cake before it's actually time!!" Grrrrrr... not a great memory. I have never felt so guilty for eating a stray cupcake that wasn't even on the tower. :0

I'm a traditional cake kind of girl. I think cupcakes tend to be a bit messy but in the end you need to do what you think is best.

I am having a wedding cake for everyone to eat, and cupcakes in various flavors too. No bright dyes though! I don't want any red, blue, green, etc., teeth in my photos.

I personally hate the cupcake wedding trend. As PPs have stated, they remind me of a child's birthday party. If you do decide to go with cupcakes, I HIGHLY advise against colored icing...especially blue.

We are doing cupcakes and an 8 inch cake for us to cut. I found a local bakery that had phenomenal reviews and cheap prices. Ultimately if it was out of budget we would have done a cake. I'm not a big dessert fan so I wanted to make sure there were flavor options. We are doing chocolate, vanilla, salted caramel, brownies, Reece flavored, and carrot cake

Thank you all for the replies ! I still have enough time to decide and I for sure want to do a cupcake tower with a cake top for the sake of "cutting the cake". Still not sure on the colors or icing yet. Might go with vanilla frosting lol Smiley laugh. I'm planning for 250 guest but 250 cupcakes needed ?

When I was looking at costs. I was surprised to see cupcakes priced about the same per cupcake as wedding cake per slice

Honestly, if you have 250 guests I would get closer to 400 cupcakes. They're significantly smaller than a slice of cake, and people may want more than one. I'm also on team actual cake... Even on the cute stand they just feel like a little kid's birthday party to me. Because I've been to little kid parties with cute cupcake stands.
