Wedding Cake - Naked or Fondant?

Erika, on November 13, 2019 at 11:03 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 51
I know naked cake is kind of a thing right now but I love fully decorated fondant cake with sugar flowers.

What's you cake going to be like/What cake did you have at your wedding?

I personally like fondant better. Is like never goes out of style. Nude is just in now but I don’t think it would be for long.

We are having a naked cake (Sunday brunch wedding) and a buttercream grooms cake (because FH loves frosting)

I agree, also you can be creative with designing the cake with fondant.

I personally do not like the taste of fondant but am not huge on the look of baked cakes either. We ended up going for a cake with normal icing! You may not be able to get as intricate with the design, but it was seriously delicious!

I strongly dislike the taste of fondant. We went with regular icing on the cake with royal icing flowers. Pretty and delicious!

This is what our cake is going to look like. We’re doing buttercream because fondant doesn’t taste good and naked cakes dry out.

We're going with buttercream because both of us wanted to avoid the taste of fondant. It should be gorgeous- the bottom tier will be rosettes, the middle tier lace, and the top foil flakes in the shape of moons and stars because our first dance is going to be our song, Fly Me to the Moon.

I have no clue what I want my cake to look like except that I am not a fan of naked cakes. I don't like how they look, and it throws off the ratio of cake to frosting.

Naked cakes are often dry and fondant is gross. Buttercream all the way!

Awesome! I told our baker to be creative he loves bow/rifle hunting, Gin, IPAs and our Chocolate lab. She is so creative I can’t wait to see what she creates. He has no idea.

Fondant is so thick and gross. We went with a whole new grooms cake design because it was going to have to be done with fondant. So both the wedding cake and groom cake will be done with buttercream. I think if there is a cool design that you are trying to achieve then you have to go with fondant. Fondant can create come awesome looking cakes, but we hate the taste. Naked cakes are in, but I need icing on my cakes. Just go for what you both like, no need to follow the current trends.
