I know naked cake is kind of a thing right now but I love fully decorated fondant cake with sugar flowers. What's you cake going to be like/What cake did you have at your wedding? Show your cake pics!!

We really don't like fondant at all so we went with regular buttercream.

I recognize not everyone likes fondant.
Our plan is to get a 2 tiered cake just for cutting. Then our baker will be making sheet cakes w/o fondant to serve to the guests. Win-Win!!!

    Love everybody's ideas and pictures

I'm all about buttercream! I could never go with a naked cake because they don't have enough frosting! We're having a 4 tier wedding cake & a 3 tier groom's cake. The golf ball on the groom's cake will be fondant, though.

I personally don’t find naked cakes to be very pretty and fondant cakes tend to taste terrible! We did buttercream and it was delicious!!

Naked cakes can get a little dry. We're doing buttercream frosting instead of fondant!

FH and I are having a three-tier red velvet cake with semi-naked buttercream frosting! We're not doing it to be trendy - we like the look, especially for our Christmas themed wedding

If I had to pick between naked and fondant, I would rather do naked lol. But I absolutely hate fondant. But it’s absolutely up to you!

We did buttercream!! Fondant looks pretty but I hate that it has to be handled so much and it usually tastes really bad (I think). Our cake was inspired by a design like this (it was way more polished - this one looks more amateur, but the design was pretty much the same)

We did a naked cake with a homemade cake stand! neither of us are into frosting and the simple cake decor just worked for us! (please excuse my face).

This was very much daughter's same opinion. Her bakery custom mixed a frosting for her that they described as a "rich buttercream," because she has issues with food consistencies and found most "whipped buttercreams" too "slimy...." Smiley winking The downside was because of the thicker consistency, they could do a "spatula finish," but couldn't do something more detailed, like rosettes, because the frosting would like crack due the the thickness. Regardless, she was super happy with her cake! If the couple loves the look and taste, that's all that should matter regarding the cake.

First if your bakery or caterer who cuts and serves cake is worth their salt you never serve fondant. It is for decoration only and never meant to be eaten.

I had a fondant cake because of the season since there was a worry it could be 110 degrees and the cake would melt. It ended up being about 65 degrees and raining.

You could get away with buttercream for an April wedding since it shouldn't be too hot.

I also had a semi-naked cake for my bridal shower it was from the same bakery as my wedding cake. It was very dry. The wedding cake was amazing. Naked cakes dry out, especially in a heavily air conditioned room for hours.

Naked cakes are usually dry. I would do a buttercream frosted cake.

We didn't have it in the budget to do anything too special so we're doing the chantilly cake from Whole Foods. It's our FAVORITE cake so it made sense to us to use it as our wedding cake! We're just stacking the 3 different sizes on top of each other. We asked if they could leave the berries off so that we could stack them and they said, "Of course! We'll even put them in a little dish on the side so you can add them back on when you're done." They're just fantastic. I salivate just thinking about it.
