Wedding bands dilemma... WHITE or YELLOW gold????????????

Emma, on February 27, 2014 at 12:58 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 26

Today I went to see some wedding bands. The problem is that I like white gold and my fiance is more traditional and likes yellow. My engagement ring is white gold, so they have suggested that I should go with a wedding band of the same color so they match. But my fiance doesn't understand this and wants gold for both of us. I don't know what to do!! He says that gold looks more like a wedding ring. He doesn't want any diamonds on my ring or anything either. Just a plain yellow gold ring! And I'm more feminine and not so traditional. I would prefer some diamonds because I want to spend on something I will love. After all, I will ALWAYS have that ring on. Besides, white gold is more modern these days.... How can I make my fiance happy but at the same time get what I want???

What do you suggest??? White or yellow gold???

Maybe a ring that has both?

You can make your own decision on your ring, y'know! Obviously, you know what you want, and if your FH still hasn't managed to convince you, then we certainly won't. You obviously want white gold, so go for it!

It's a tough call because he genuinely wants you to match him. A solid white gold ring with no diamonds will need to be replated faster though because there will be nothing to take away from the color change (like a diamond).

Maybe do a two tones band?

The thing is that rings that have both (yellow and white) are more expensive and I don't have a big budget.

I really like yellow gold, on certain people. This may not be too popular, but I really think that the individual's skin tone picks the ring colour. My brother-in-law wanted white gold but when he tried rings on, they just looked flat on him . Yellow gold looked much better for his colouring. In my mind that plays into it quite a bit. Good luck!

Is a two-tone ring going to be harder to maintain? How can they re-plate just the white gold portion of it?

What about getting 2 wedding bands for you? A white gold band to wear with your engagement ring. And when you don't want to wear your engagement ring (dirty work, swollen fingers, etc.), wear a yellow gold band.

Just go for the white gold for yourself! The rings absolutely do not need to be the same color. How often will the two of you be holding your left hands out together for people to even notice? My wedding band will be platinum to match my engagement ring, and his band is yellow gold. No big deal.

This is an argument I would not let him win. I would not submit to his decision!

In some religions and cultures it needs to be a plain yellow band... mehhhhh It's 2014.

DO WHAT YOU WANT Smiley smile

You're going to wear it, not him. He'll deal. Maybe get a plain very thin gold (cute ones on etsy) and wear that on your right ring finger.

Your rings don't need to match. Get what you each prefer for yourself.

Mine is a platinum eternity band with channel set diamonds all the way around and DH's is yellow gold braided all the way around -- so they don't match at all.

Personally I would want it to match my engagement ring - I like the idea of finding a band with both white & yellow gold in it.

I don't think his ring needs to match yours - but you sort of need him to like his ring since he will be wearing it for the rest of his life Smiley smile

    Good Luck!

@Nancy - if you get real white gold, you don't have to have it plated, ever. If you get rhodium dipped white gold, you have to replate it ever 6 months or so

Get 2 tone or just don't make them match Smiley tongue I agree it's better if you both just end up loving your rings, even if they aren't the same. You could always put the same engraving on the inside or something like that.

Your ring and his ring do not have to be the same, ours are not a matching set. Mine is white gold and his is black with diamonds

What about doing stacked rings? Get the gold band to match his plus a diamond one to make you happy.

It's your ring, no? He choose what he wears and you choose what you wear, IMO. They don't have to match (and most couples' don't).

Yours and his don't have to match. Ours don't match, mine is white gold like my engagement ring and his is yellow gold with a ruby center stone and a couple of diamonds on the sides. He can't wear his at work for safety reasons so he wanted something with his birthstone and kind of flashy for when he does wear it.

Wait.. our bands are supposed to match? Oops....

I have rose gold (he picked it out), he has tungsten with an Ivory-like stripe. We do what we want.
