Wedding band confusion

*~WiiFeY~*, on January 31, 2011 at 11:30 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

I honestly CANNOT find a band I like. The one that comes with my ring just doesn't do it for me, and I don't want to settle for something I don't like and waste $800. I posted not too long ago about getting one custom made. I've been to 2 different jewelers and both told me the same thing.. That they would take a normal channel set band and cut a little notch out of the top for my peekaboo diamond to fit in it. I really don't like that idea.. I wanted a curved band, but I can't find one to fit it perfectly anywhere.. And both jewelers pretty much said I'm not GOING to find one to fit it perfectly. I'm about to go crazy and I'm getting frustrated. So FS said "Why don't you just not wear a band?"

Which got me thinking.. Is it totally weird to JUST wear one ring? I was thinking about getting a simple regular band to just wear sometimes, and switching it up and wearing my e ring sometimes. Or maybe wearing my band on my right hand. I'm okay with it, I just don't know if its "wrong" to do

Pic #1: My e ring, with the peekaboo diamond

Pic #2: What I WANT, but can't find anything to fit. (This is something similar)

Pic #3: What the jewelers want to do, which I don't like. Obviously I just did this on paint lol But they want to cut just a little notch, and have my ring fit in there.. This looks funny to me.

Ugh, it did it out of order. The last picture is what I WANT, the second picture is what I DON'T want.

I think if you're ok with it, and your FH is too, go for it. I'm only wearing one ring (my E ring will become my wedding ring), because I don't like having bulky rings. Here's a photo of mine.

Maybe this notch will be big enough? Or it might be too big and not touch. Maybe ask about return policy?

Maybe see if you can see any of these in person. Not sure if possible, but they have a lot of wedding bands with notches in them, maybe one will sit flush - cross fingers -

This band fits this ring, very similar to yours.

Hayley- It seems like it should be easy to find one since there are so many notched and curved bands out there.. But I have literally been to sooo many stores and tried all different things on, even tried wraps that could possibly work.. nothing fits right! The one at Kay that GOES with my band is the best bet, because it fits together okay, but they move all around in different directions on my finger.. It drives me crazy. I want them to sit close and stay together.

I'm attaching pics of my ring, and the one that supposedly goes with it. Every time I go in there they say "Oh well you'll just have to get them soldered together, they wont move around them. And I DO NOT want them soldered together!

I'm sorry!! Oh I know this must be terribly frustrating. If you want to just wear one band and not stress about it all -- just do it. I know several girls that got married with their engagment ring and only have one ring still (shoot my mom only has one ring) -- she hated the two rings rubbing against her skin and pinching her -- so she just took one of them off and only wears it every once in awhile. I have a ring very similar to yours, and I have a "bump out" band that goes with it. I plan on getting it sodered together after the wedding because I tried both of them on and the band moves A LOT and it just drove me crazy....but that is just my personal opinion.

My ring is a Victorian family heirloom. I am having a custom wedding band made to go with it. Do not go to a chain jewelry store. They will not do what you need. Find an independent jeweler who does his own work. Most of them are artists and will be able to do something that would be perfect for you.

Kay has a band like what you want (I'm pretty sure they do anyway). I think that when we went to try e rings on for me the lady told me with my ring I would need something along the lines of what you want. here's 2 links to kay.com that you may like

Another question.. have you thought about a double enancher? My friend has one of those, and her e-ring goes in the middle and becomes one ring of that makes sense. here's a link to some from kays if your interested.

Chelsea- I have been to 3 different Kays, and Jarrod because they're a sister/brother company and tried on pretty much every curved, notched, and regular band they have. Nothing works. The band that is designed for it DOES work, its not that something doesn't exist, its just that they don't fit together as well as I want. They still move around. I don't want them soldered together because I will be working in the medical field and can't wear my e ring with rubber gloves, so I'm going to wear just my wedding band.

I've been to plenty of independent jewelers. I haven't asked a chain to special make me something, they charge too much. I've been to lots of local places. They are the ones who said they can take a notch out of my band. That was the only option they gave me even after I told them I didn't like that idea. Neither one seemed too interested in making a curved band, they said if I do that its going to be just like the one at Kay and move all around.

We are also on a budget. We're putting a lot of money into a house, redoing the house, our honeymoon, etc. We don't have the money to go crazy and get some elaborately designed ring. The few jewelers we went to, though, were going to design something to fit my ring, but its not what I want.

Long story short, my ring is difficult and I'M difficult. I know what I want and can't find it. I've been everywhere and tried everything. I'm still going to go to other small jewelers (as in, not a chain) and see what they can offer.. But I might just have to go the one-ring route.

Christina, I'm glad you feel my pain! Smiley smile

This is similar to what Hailey posted. I also know they have a very good return policy

    second one: http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-wedding-ring_8132

I am not sure what the return policy is on a custom item. Everyone I know that has had something custom made was very happy with the outcome. http://www.bluenile.com/personal-shopping-service?track=tam
