Ways to make a little extra money for the wedding/honeymoon?

Lydia, on July 16, 2012 at 9:30 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 11

SO, since my fiance and I are paying for half of our wedding, I need ideas for easy ways to make cash. I am selling all the textbooks I have on Amazon which should bring in a little over $200. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks Smiley smile

My fiance and I are having a garage sale (we are asking both sides of the family if they have anything they want to sell) and all money for all items are going towards the wedding.

I also picked up a second part time job, but am finding that is going to bills more then wedding :\

Couponing, selling anything that might be worth something on Craigslist, signed up with a local market research company, but nothing has come of that yet, considering donating plasma (but that's still far off...) Of course, a part time gig could help, perhaps a seasonal job around the holidays, if you can swing it?

I'm sure the ladies here will have other suggestions. Smiley smile

Def the harder suggestion, but we are both working two jobs right now. Our income from our part time jobs goes directly into the wedding account, we dont touch it, even if we "need" it.

We are delaying our honeymoon. We are paying for the wedding in full, and as much as we have stuck to a small budget we are still coming up short in a few areas. I had hoped to go this winter (better to be on a tropical beach in the winter anywaySmiley smile but we may have to push it back to a 1 year anniversary honeymoon. I'm really ok with that. I'd rather wait and truly be able to get away and relax than to keep stressing about money.

Look for your Local Facebook Group (beg, barter, trade, sell) to sell anything extra you have laying around. Dvds, games, clothes, shoes, anything you can think of. Just be careful and meet in public.

I think Hayley has a really great list on her profile page. Off the top of my head I would say:

Cut cable and replace with DVDs from Netflix or your library

Pack lunches and coffee from home

Do free stuff for date night/recreation - board games, free days at museums, etc

Meal plan - #1 money-saver around my house

Agree that your "gifts" to each other will be handmade/free while you're saving cash.

Sign up for consumer panels like ingather research - I've made $150 before for a few hours of my time reviewing products, advertisements, etc.

    Stretch out your haircuts/colors

Stretch your current wardrobe another season before replacing anything

Cut your gym membership and work out with DVDs at home (if that works for you)

Sign up for a farm/grocery co-op to get local produce/eggs/milk

Keep your eye on the prize. We struggled at times but it was SO worth it to pay off the wedding in full, in cash, without having to ask anyone for anything.

A couple I know said wedding gifts are not necessary and if possible they would love to have their close friends and family donate to their "honeymoon fund". I thought it was a cute idea. (There was an actual website for it, but the name escapes me. :c) Trade in old clothes for cash if you have some places like that (granted they don't give you a lot). Selling things was a good idea.

    Try www.honeyfund.com

It's a site you can register and have you guests put money towards your honeymoon. It even lets you break it down. Example: Dinner for 2,$75 Sight-seeing $100. Guests can choose different activities and put money towards which ever item and however many. You can put the website on your wedding website and have a link to it so people can possibly even start now so you can put some money towards wedding funds.

    Good Luck!
