Walmart wedding cakes

Crystal, on February 25, 2015 at 1:59 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 29

So there doesn't seem to be any recent posts about this...has anyone ever had a Walmart wedding cake?? I am getting estimates of $400 from professional bakeries and that is not budget friendly for me.

I never had a walmart wedding cake. But publix cakes are good, but it will cost around the same $400.

You can't pay me enough to walk into the doors at WalMart....every store I have walked into has been dirty has hell, the employees are rude and underpaid and I wouldnt trust them to get near a wedding cake

I wouldn't trust a walmart wedding cake to come out how I want it. How about Costco? I heard publix has good ones too, but I don't have one near me.

Save money by skipping wedding cake and serve something else for dessert (pies, cookies, bars, etc.)

I'm with Maltese, plus I just can't ethically shop there. I would go with a more reputable grocery store. Not sure where you live, but my FSIL got hers at shoprite,

I went to a wedding with a Lowes Food bakery cake. It was simple and delicious!

I was there over the weekend and they had sample wedding cakes. I tried a piece-it was good! My Walmart has been recently remodeled and is decent.

Inexpensive alternative: Dessert table, I got plenty for 90-ish people for 205.98

(I also have cake with it too)

Sam's & Costco have very reasonably priced cakes. You can check out some options & prices even online. Sam's is very good.

You may want to check on kijiji or craigslist for a local small baker who could do cakes for you. In my area, a 3 tier cakes goes for a min of $500. When fh and I did our cake shopping, we set up appointments with 6 bakeries (most being the fancier more trendy bakeries). I also booked a lady who bakes cakes out of her house. After eating a zillion different cakes, we ended up going with the independent lady, and not based on price. Our average quotes were between 500-700 and this lady is charging us $300 for an even bigger cake then the ones we were looking at! The sole reason we picked her though was because her cake was, by far, way better then the other bakeries!!! We were speechless! Oh, and her buttercream was to die for!!! And, of course, her portfolio was solid!

The bakeries in WalMart's are pretty hit or miss. I only like two that are within an hour's drive of us. Both of them are well kept, well managed, and the customer service is always great!

It really depends on the specific store.

I hate Wal-mart and I have had cake from there at a few kids birthday parties (pretty cakes, but no great cake). Publix makes great cakes, and you could probably find someone who works from home who is more budget friendly. Costco also makes good cakes too.

I once ordered a cake from Sam's Club and it was actually pretty decent for the price. Of course it wasn't a cake that could feed 100+ people, but I didn't have any issues with it at all. I actually got a lot of compliments on it...

I know Sam's and Walmart are the same company, but Sam's cakes are pretty good. I tried some of the regular cake at Walmart that would be used for the wedding cake (I, too, considered it), and BLEH. Not good at all. Cake was dry and the frosting was globby, lardy, and sort of frozen.

Can I just say how awesome it is to hear that other people on WW refuse to shop at Walmart? Every time Sams club or Walmart get mentioned here, I cringe because I loathe that company. I'm in the no Walmart, ever, camp.

I'm personally not into store bough cakes, or cakes in general, but..... Costco cakes are pretty damn good if you get the right one? I don't think they're the sheet cakes are the ones I've liked but worth a taste anyway........ Have you considered a different dessert? Unless you and FH are cake people you don't have to do a cake. Cookies, bars, waffle bar, fruit salad and whip cream are all yummy. If you're using a caterer you could also see what they might be willing to provide. Might be cheaper that way because the vendor is already involved.
