Venue response to Covid-19?

Adwoa, on April 6, 2020 at 10:36 PM Posted in Community Conversations 1 5
How flexible is everyone’s venue being with postponing dates? Are they letting all their 2020 weddings decide to postpone (without penalty) or are they only letting events close to now change? What’s that cut off?

My venue is super flexible to rescheduling (I am a Nov 2020 bride - but have friends in the early summer range who have said the same thing). I reached out for more information and they have been super informative and just overall have always been good communicators. They are also offering skype / calls to help finish final planning as an alternative for close date brides.

I'm not sure what the cutoff is, but our wedding was originally supposed to be April 18th, but has now been postponed to August 15th. All of our vendors, including venues, were super accommodating and understanding and there were no extra charges for moving the date. If you're date is at the end of August, I don't think you should have to start worrying yet (at least lets hope not, since we moved our date to August lol). But it definitely doesn't hurt to reach out to your vendors to see where they stand, what their policy might be, and if it would help even asking what their other brides around that date are doing.

I’m not until September, but when I emailed my venue coordinator recently (unrelated question),I got an extremely detailed auto-reply indicating that they’re taking things 3-4 weeks at a time and will not discuss postponing unless you are in April or May due to ever changing regulations (this is in NY)

I'm in NJ, set to be married in June. My venue won't even talk to us about the possibility of postponing until May. They said they'll only talk to people a month out from their date.

    Hi Adwoa,

From what I am hearing, as long as you are postponing and not canceling most venues are being very flexible.
