Venue gratuity

MISS2MRS.<3, on May 10, 2016 at 11:05 AM Posted in Planning 0 41

Is this standard? As some of you know FH and I just booked our venue recently and there is a 15% gratuity tacked on which (I just did the math) will be over 1K.. The lady said 500$ but it's actually just over double what she said. The venue is a gorgeous church hall with their own catering. We presumed everything was included in the price per person she originally quoted us. We will deal with it but my question is do most venues do this or did we get husseled a little?

My gratuity is 18%. Most venues do include a service charge, and obviously this varies by venue and region.

From what I've learned on here that's pretty standard and that's the low end.

My service/staffing fee includes gratuity, and it's 23% aka 2.5K. It is what it is.

20% service charge and an 11.5% tax. There was no way to get around it.

Absolutely normal. That and tax is what always adds up and many forget about it

Ours is 15% gratuity and 13% tax. I think it's basically expected that you'll pay gratuity on top of your bill.

Mine is 22%. I'd rather it be added in because tipping the waitstaff is one less thing to worry about on my wedding day.

Totally normal. for us we have a service/gratuity of 20% and tax of 10%. However our contract states that the service/gratuity does not include tips for the waiters or bartenders so we are planning on bring extra cash in individual thank you cards and tipping them in person.

Since they are doing your catering too that makes sense but for just the venue, at least around here, no. None of the venues I looked at had a gratuity for the space alone but all caterers did.

Double check with your venue and see if the service charge is the gratuity or not. at my venue it is, (20%) but at some venues it's not.

We don't have a gratuity on the venue, but all of the catering costs have an additional 15% gratuity on top of the 14% sales taxes.

Our venue has a 25% service charge on food - it covers gratuity and linens (not tax).

20% service charge, 5.9% resort fee, 2.55% forest service fee, 5.78% sales tax and each charge is totaled before the next one is tacked on. It's a racket.
