Venue for under $500

Lolita, on October 6, 2015 at 4:31 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 29

Does antoje know of a venue for under $500? I know it sounds a little ridiculous but I have a very small budget and I don't want to go over if I don't have to. I have found two places that are under $500 but I want to keep exploring until I'm confident that I have found the one. I want a place where I can bring my own food and alcohol. Most parks and beaches don't allow alcohol on the area. I am looking for an outdoor place with nice view. Let me know if you found any? Thx

You can start with a Vendor search here on WW, but I doubt you'll find anything for under $500 (it costs the venues more than that to advertise here).

What about a restaurant, fraternal organization (Elks, Moose, Eagles, VFW, etc.), or the clubhouse at a condo or apartment complex?

Unless you find a public park that will allow you to book a space, that's a tough number.

What do you want for the $500 - just a place or a place with chairs, sounds equipment, etc.

Check out city and county websites to see what facilities they rent.

I booked my section of a public park, seating for up to 100 people for $50 for the whole day.

Can you get an alcohol permit?

Always include a city and state when you're asking for venue help.

Have you tried VFWs, social halls, Fraternal Organizations (like the Elk's club), senior centers, club houses at apartment townhouse communities or rental complexes your friends might live in (don't laugh -- we had a kick ass Sweet Sixteen for my daughter at a community clubhouse back in 1999 at a rental fee less than $200. They had tables and chairs we could use. Elegant? It didn't have to be elegant -- it was a Sweet Sixteen and it only required pink balloons, Hanson being played by the DJ, a caricature artist, finger foods and a cool birthday cake. If I was doing it up for a wedding, you'd better believe it would look great, but it wasn't a wedding).

Listen, if you don't have the money, you don't have a strong position in negotiations. You might have to give up some of what you love. If you're willing to compromise, you may get what you're looking for.

Rentals for tables and chairs are probably going to cost more than if you booked a community center or VFW.

I do, Jersey Jen. I've got tons of photos (and I got bored of seeing the coral/mint BMs with the lovely bouquets my partner made, lol).
