*VENT* People asking if I'm nervous...

HollyKnoxville, on October 20, 2011 at 8:58 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 22

My boss and other co-workers keep asking me if I'm nervous.... no, I'm not effin nervous, I'm excited! Why in the h-e- double hockey stick would I be nervous?! WTH is wrong with them?!

My favorite is giving my boss the wth-are-you-talking-about look when I say "NO?". It's just getting annoying. I might get nervous right before I walk down the stairs then aisle to see my FH, but not now. And I'll be a lot more excited when I'm driving up. *sigh* 16 days out and yes, I'm excited and in NO way nervous to marry my best friend!

*sorry for the vent, I just had 2 people ask me in a row and it's not even 9am!

Maybe they are asking because they want to talk about the wedding but don't know how to bring it up? I would get annoyed if everyone kept asking me that too.

@ Melissa, even still, what a weird question to ask. I'm starting to find it funny at this point. Always starts the same "how many days left? are you nervous?" Why not just ask "are you excited?"..... LOL idiots

I don't think they mean are you nervous about getting married I think it's more over all of the details and stage fright kind of thing. I think I'd answer back no I'm super organized and have a good team in place in the event a detail/problem crops up :-)

I agree. I say no when people ask me. I have got over five months to go though.

I don't think I will be nervous either when i get close.

I just keep thinking about how much I want to marry him, and I am so excited!. I get a little nevrous and stressed out about the "wedding stuff" but not the marriage.

I agree with Marie ... but yeah they could word it a little better. Maybe they were nervous at this point when they got married so this is the only way they can relate?

I'd just take a deep breath and tell them what Marie said.

Thanks ladies. I think what annoys me the most is that these are people I really don't like to socialize with anyway. They are super ignorant and socially inept. SO, any sort of conversation with them is just exhausting and leaves me shaking my head, lol.

I know the feeling Holly! Except I get "anxious" instead of "nervous". On the Plus side my boss gave me an extra paid day off so I can go get a massage to remove some of those "anxious feelings" lol

Holly, people are dumb and will ask ridiculous questions just to make conversation.

It's sort of like TV news people who interview someone who just went through a natural disaster, and they'll ask crap like, "Were you scared?" Just once I want someone to respond, "Hell yeah I was scared, a freakin' tornado took my cows to Kingdom Come!"

I would just start responding with things like, "Well, I wasn't nervous until you asked me that. Oh my GOSH! I better call off the whole thing!" Bonus points if you run away screaming and flailing your arms.

@ Shannon, Oh yeah! I totally agree.

I had a good friend of mine ask the other day so just to give her sh*t I said "What? Why? What's wrong? Was there a fire?! What's happened?!?! TELL ME!". I'm sure that made her butthole pucker with fear... lol

Holly - the stupid questions will continue for a while after your wedding too so you might want to start considering responses now LOL - this was my experience 20 years ago:

Did you enjoy your honeymoon - choice of two responses that I didn't have the guts to say back then but I'm 42 now & will have no problem saying now - Nope it was horrible and what a huge mistake, do you know a good divorce lawyer? (JK) or yup we bleeped like rabbits the entire time.

So when are you having kids - my answer - My eggs are old now what do you think the baby would look like?

Sorry Shannon got me started - it's her fault! LOL

I think it's because people just don't know how to bring it up. And I never realized until now that yes, you can be nervous. But it's not for the actual marriage, but rather making sure all your plans go your way.

I honestly don't understand why people get so annoyed with an innocent question like "are you nervous?". I wasn't nervous so I just said "No, just excited." Why make such a big deal about it?

@ Pumpkin's Sunshine, not making a big deal about it, just venting to fellow brides who might have the same experience we can all laugh about.

I get asked that question a lot too. I just kind of chuckle and say no.

But this last Monday...I started getting super nervous. It was the first time I got to sit down and really think about getting married. I was finished with the wedding planning and then it hit me...crap...that was my last weekend as a 'single' woman...holy cow...next weekend I'm going to be married! OMG this is crazy! Something I've dreamed about virtually my entire life is finally happening!

@ Cydney, That's awesome!! I can't wait to get that "it hit me" feeling! I'm excited, but it still feels so far away. Can't wait for the day to get here!
