Veil/headpiece with a purple dress?

Miss Michal, on January 31, 2011 at 10:53 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

What kind of headpiece do you think I could wear with a purple dress? How weird would it be to wear a purple veil? Since it's a Catholic wedding, maybe a black mantilla? Feather headband? Tiara? Taco Bell wrapper? This is one of the things holding me up on the purple dress vs. traditional white debate.

This is the dress in question: http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_6165110-6165110

LMAO @ taco bell wrapper. Beautiful dress!

I'd go with a birdcage or headband.

Beautiful dress! I suggest an ivory or white veil with Plum color silk "rattail" or ribbon edge. And there are many more to chose from, all can be done with a colored edge. I think black would be way too much! Attached is a photo of one of my clients with Burgundy-edged veil; very pretty!

For example, a veil like this can be customized (just e-mail a request for a plum color edge): http://forprincessbride.com/store/product127.html

I think an ivory birdcage veil would be really cute, possibly with some feather or flower on the side

I think your dress is beautiful, simple, and elegant. I would just go with some flowers to the side maybe matching your bouquet.

If you are looking into birdcage type, this might also work, but only in Ivory! http://forprincessbride.com/store/product725.html

I wore a pink dress, with white pearls, from David's Bridal. I had a white veil custom ordered from them with the exact pink trim color. It looked totally pulled together, because I did not like the all white one with a pink dress. HTH.

When is your wedding? Daytime? Evening?

I'd go black or the deep purple if it were evening, but probably ivory or white if it were daytime.

I like the idea of a birdcage veil or adorned headband best.

Irina, that's a great idea for the veil! Now if I could get one to stay on my head for more than five minutes...short hair. Blergh. There are some super cute tiaras on your site too, like this one: http://forprincessbride.com/store/product386.html Thanks everyone!

I agree with the headband.. I think a veil would look strange with that dress... even a birdcage veil.

I think if it's daytime: go with an ivory birdcage.

For evening, a black birdcage would be awesome!

Let me preface this with the fact that I love really striking looks. I love the idea of a chapel or cathedral length black mantilla veil. I'm not sure how you feel about not having a train on your dress (which is amazing by the way) but I think a really long black mantilla veil would give you the look of a train and really compliment the dress.

Wow, I love that black mantilla! But I'm thinking a deep purple dress and a black veil might be a little much, as Irina said. A little too goth for what I'm going for. Great suggestions for goth-inclined brides, though. There are some here...

@Miss Michal: thank you for your compliment on that headband tiara; that particular one is by En Vogue. If you think the long veil would not stay put in your hair because you think it would be too heavy, maybe a different, "new" type of birdcage veil would be the solution! This one has 2 combs on each side (that will add more secure fit) and it's extremely lightweight: http://forprincessbride.com/store/product788.html. Also, an interesting side piece would do the trick: attached is a photo of one of my clients with extremely short hair, and she had a side feathered piece that stayed put without any problems! It has to be light though, so feathers/flowers are good, but crystals/metal/silver ornaments will make it heavy!

Thanks! I'm thinking I'm not really a birdcage girl. I really like the purple-tipped veil idea, and perhaps I'll come up with a way (staples?) to keep it on my noggin. Otherwise, the tiara/headband by itself would be super cute.
