Using a Substitute Ring for Ceremony

Rebecca, on February 10, 2012 at 8:52 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

I work in sales so my paychecks never come at regular intervals. I've been having a rough month and decided to use a cz ring for the wedding band instead of stressing myself out over trying to buy a ring along with the other things that are needed. Once the wedding is over and everything is paid for, I'll be able to buy myself a nice "real" wedding band. Is anyone else having to do this?

I know a girl whose wedding ring is her engagement ring. It's a simple band with a diamond and that's what they used. It looks nice.

I've also been to a wedding where the MOH forgot the rings back at the hotel so the Bride and Groom had to use their parent's rings as subsititutes. (They caught this prior to the ceremony so the guests had no idea)

Do what you can afford and feel comfortable with. Smiley smile

Yeah, I thought about using the engagment ring but it really doesn't look like a wedding band. And can I just say, that the it took forever to find a cz that looked believable. Idk why all of them are made with huge stones. They look ridiculous! Here is my engagment ring. Maybe it's just me, but I really don't think it looks like a wedding band.

For my wedding I won't be having the dream wedding band to go with it. The dream band is pretty expensive so I will just have a plain white gold band. It half way works out because I really do need a plain band for work. I'm a nurse so I'm constantly washing my hands, putting on and taking off gloves. It doesn't work on the other hand because my ER curves so the plain band won't look good at all beside it. I will just have to wear one or the other. FH promised I would get the dream band for the 1st anniversary.

So what 'looks' like a wedding band? Everyone will have a different opinion in what a wedding band should look like ;o)

Her band is very elaborate with little diamonds going up and around. I attempted to find a picture of it on her facebook but she doesn't have any "ring shots". With the ring she has, it goes gorgeously AS her wedding band. I cannot imagine another ring to go along with it, it would just be too much on her finger.

I am thinking about doing the same thing since we are both finishing college. I think we are going to get my "real" wedding band as an anniversary present.

I'm thinking about using a "fake" ring. Just because the ring bearer is 3 and that could be an Epic Failure!

Rings are symbolic, so there isn't such a thing as a "real" wedding band. Get what you can afford, if you'd like another ring later you can always get it for an anniversary.

Usually, young ringbearers have fake rings on the pillow and the best man has custody of the real rings.

You have to do what you have to do. Noone is going to know, so I wouldn't sweat it. Besides, I agree with Mrs. S, what's a "real" wedding band.

You do what you have too! Lots of people are having rough times right now unfortunately.... i've worn my "engagement" ring for our entire marriage cause we couldn't afford when we did the JOP all those yrs ago... i told him i'ld like one this time, but still..NOTHING wonderful a, simple sweet gold band. the ring is just a symbol... our marriage and family is where the love and commitment come from...where the hard word goes, ya know? You get what you can hon! What you have now is beautiful!!!!!

You do what you can afford. It took forever to pay off my rings so i have a diamond wedding band that matches my engagement ring and i have a solid gold wedding band..

FH was the best man in a wedding several years back and LOST the bride's ring in the pasture just before the ceremony. They played it off like nothing happened and he went back later to find the ring.

No one noticed that he didn't put a ring on her finger.

Future Mrs. X, that is crazy! I'm assuming the found it?

And @Sabrina, Thanks! He did a great job picking it out.

@Mrs. Carol, the ring that I bought is a sterling silver cz. My "real" band will be when I get a white gold, diamond band will match my er. I'm just waiting until I have the money for it.
