Upset! Wedding dress i like is too expensive!!!

Lorena, on September 15, 2010 at 1:56 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 32

Ugh! I fell in love with a wedding dress. I have a 2k budget for my dress. i could even push it to 3k but the dress is $4500.00!!!!

My mother said she could pay the rest but i feel guilty spending THAT much money on a dress. Im having a civil and church ceremony and even though i'm not wearing a wedding gown to both i going to still need to buy a pretty dress for the civil wedding.

I'm torn because there is a lot i could do with that much money!!!

If you don't mind a "used" dress, check out preownedweddingdress.com and craigslist, you could get a really good deal on it. It is a gorgeous dress!

Did you try on this dress? If you did, maybe take all the elements you love about it and try to match it to another dress that less expensive.

Wow I understand. I was in the same situation and I found a dress at less than half the cost of the original one I wanted (a val stefani gown). Try alfedangelo.com. Maybe they will have something you like. I was looking for a mermaid type dress and the one in your picture fits that description. Take a peak.

I would think that there would be a Maggie dress similar to that one and I believe that her prices are reasonable.

Thanks! Im going on full research mode to find a similar dress. I already found a Pronovias one i like but i would have to wait until Oct to try it on here in MD (unless i got o NYC). Its reasonable (1,400.00), the only major draw is the one shoulder thing - I'm afraid i might regret it 30 years from now...

You might also consider having it made. I had mine made from a seller on ebay, and they did an incredible job. And it fits me perfectly because you give them your exact measurements. Here are a few similar dresses for a fraction of the price:

LOL unique well said Smiley smile I mean who cares about 30 years later. Why waste down payment toward a house or car for a dress when is only worn once? Trust me I am sure Maggie dresses have something like that, but if you want to spend $4k, I would sell it afterwards.

Based upon the above message, I assume you live in MD, what stores have you contacted about that dress?

I agree - dress designers all copy off of each other (and really, you can only do so much with a white dress). I'm sure there's something out there that's similar for less.

I think i'm going to wait a bit 'till October and try that other dress from Pronovias. My FH aunt is the one making the alterations on whatever dress i buy (save a little there) and i would like her to come with me to see about maybe removing the one strap from that dress and making it a sweetheart!

Thank you guys for all the help! Seeing other options makes it better. I have to put things in perspective and i don't see myself (right now) spending that much money on a dress that i will wear twice (i want to do 'trash the dress') and that will end up in the trash.

    THANKS Smiley smile

If you have tried the dress on and love it,I would first maybe try a few more on just to be SURE.Then I would maybe see about buying off the rack.

If not,and you really LOVE the dress than get it.

I would think about either reselling it instead of trashing it in TTD and maybe wear a less expensive dress for TTD.

It's beautiful but I'm sure you can find the same or very similar dress for much cheaper. I saw my dress on Say Yes to the Dress for 2k and I only paid $550 for it.

If you can go to the Pronovias store in NY I would go...I've been and it is just amazing. The first dress looks like JLM Couture (Lazaro, Jim Hjelm, Alvina Valenta....) and they can get up there if that is the designer.

Yep! It's Lazaro. Why can't it just magically get a huge markdown? lol

The only thing that throws me off about the Maggie Sottero dresses is the lace-up backs. I wanted buttons but could settle with a zipper. Never been a fan of anything too corset looking.

You should make a trip out to the Pronovias store. Smiley smile

I couldn't justify spending that much to myself. JMO
