NewlyWeducated, on November 3, 2016 at 5:54 PM Posted in Community Conversations 2 155

Updated with a pic of the final product set up at the venue in the comments for everyone that asked for them! wanted to post this because many of us wonder about Sam's flowers, and I am going the full-blown DIY route with them. Over the next couple of days I'll put together 12 tall centerpieces (the kind Here are a few shots of arrival/unwrapping the flowers. I will post more over the next few days with updates and the final product! A few numbers (because I'm an accountant, also because I was like WTFFFFF when I was trying to determine quantities):

375 White Roses

150 White Hydrangeas

70 White Orchids

12 Bunches Baby's Breath

100 Bells of Ireland

100 Light Pink Roses

8 Bunches Greenery

I also ordered pre-made: Two 25-Foot Greenery Garlands, and the white wedding collection (includes pre-arranged bridal & BM bouquet and corsages/bouts

(cont'd)....I have not yet unwrapped the hydrangeas and many of the roses. What you see pictured above is about 25% of the total quantity we ordered! Quality is EXCELLENT. I had almost ZERO damaged flowers and they are all gorgeous...lol @ all those roses in my bathtub. Total cost for this quantity of flowers, including all the premade bouquets/bouts/and the 50 feet of garland was around $2000. I had florists quote me $8-10k for what I have envisioned, but do not be mistaken, this will take a TON of work and prep time on my part!!

Keep in mind you will want a TON of 5-gallon buckets prepared, this took me about 25-30 of them to give the flowers space to breathe comfortably without crushing them. Updates to come. Smiley smile

ETA: Another pic of the bells of Ireland, a couple hydrangeas, baby's breath, and greenery.

Centerpiece must be in shock.... I expected her to say SO much more....

As for me... I'm just over here in shock myself. I know you have ultimate faith in you. And I applaud any DIY efforts, but this seems... impossible. Sorry, I couldn't come up with a better word. IF you pull it off, I will stand publicly corrected on WW, and be the first to admit I was wrong.

HS.. I'm waiting for updates. I don't think I would ever have dared to spend $2000 on a DIY project.

For clarity I'm a very regular crafter and this is nowhere near my first time working with flowers. This is also my only DIY for the wedding and I have the entire next two days set aside only for this.

I cannot wait for your BAM. We almost went this route, but then the clouds opened up and a florist said, "I'll do your wedding for $1,500". I'm currently happy dancing around my apartment in the free space that would have been covered by 1000 flowers as I type. C'mon Sunday!!!

Oh, I want to say more because the truth is that an amateur has no idea what it takes to create beautifully designed pieces for their weddings. Unless the OP has had real floral training, these pieces will look like what they are -- DIYs. Lots and lots of DIYs.

Oh sure, the flowers are flawless -- that's why companies like Fifty Flowers stay in business. Wanna talk about the god-awful mess this project leaves behind? Wanna talk about the "it's good enough" comments that will be uttered as the night goes on and you've still got a bunch of work to do? It is a massive undertaking, and we haven't even gotten to the helpers who don't want to be there and have no talent, but do have two hands. Transportation and dying hydrangeas (count on 10% of them folding in on themselves unless you've carefully prepped and hydrated them -- or know the tricks to bring them back) is another issue.

    Good luck.

ETA: Will you allow me to give you an honest opinion of your final project, OP? I'm fair.

Thanks centerpiece! No glitter covered slaves here though, I have absolutely asked not one single person to jump off this cliff with me. You can give me whatever opinions you want when I'm done....I'm properly hosting my guests with comfy seating and all the food and free alcohol they can consume, so I figured if I wanted to spend 2 days up to my eyeballs in floral mess that may or may not end up looking as good as a pro, that's my prerogative. It's just decor and if all my plans fail there will be pretty flowers in simple vases and no one but myself to blame, and I'm fine with that. It's the risk I chose to take because this is what my budget allowed. I'll definitely keep y'all posted.
