We like the name Levy for a girl. That could change though because we don't want kids anytime soon!

    LOL CATS

I recently saw the movie Brooklyn and I am now obsessed with the name Eilis. It's pronounced "AY-lish", it's the Irish equivalent of Alice. I'll probably use it as a middle name if FH agrees Smiley smile

I've always loved the name Charlotte, but it's becoming super-popular now. We probably don't want kids anyway so it's a moot point, but I still think about potential names sometimes.

I have a niece named Emelina. It's Hawaiian. Everyone calls her Emi.

I know Celia doesn't seem like that unusual a name, but literally 90% of the time, after I introduce myself, the other person say, "Cicelia?"

I wouldn't give my child a name that requires a conversation every time she meets a new person.

Haley - I love the name Emmersyn!! My great-Pappa's name was Emerson, so that name has always had special meaning to me. If my FH and I have a girl in the future (after we've been married for awhile), we will name her Cadence. It's always been a name that we have loved!

I second Celia's statement. My first name is a variation of a very common name, instead of ending in "-ly/ley" mine ends in "-lyn" and a total of three people have ever gotten it right the first time, even when reading it from paper. Yes, I was the only one with my name is all my classes but that connivence has been cancelled out by the ridiculous number of times my name has been messed up on documents.

Unique is great as long as you don't need a whole conversation to get people to understand what your name is.

I'm a big fan of boys names for girls, but this can get tricky.

    ETA: further explanation.

Like Celia, I'd never name a child something that requires a conversation to explain nor would I name a child something they would have to spell out anytime someone asks. Call me old- school or boring, but a child shouldn't have to pronounce or spell their name multiple times when introducing themselves.

I like more traditional names although they seem to be less and less common these days. My favorite girls name is Caroline Elizabeth or Kathryn Elizabeth.

FWIW, what is a 'unique' name today can become very trendy and popular over time. My name was barely in the top 600 when I was born, and now it's in the top 100. Pick something you like-- that's more important than it being 'unique'.

I have the name Delaney Kay picked out. Dulaney is an area in Baltimore and Kay is my and my mom's middle name. I also like the names McKinley and Kennedy for girls (president names always make good names IMO...I'm a history teacher haha)

@ratr It is! Though my parents considered Kimberlyn as well. I never went by Ashlyn when I was younger because it was such a mess. Ironically, to help the situation my parents called me a very common name but spelt it differently. Needless to say, I'm trying to stay "safe" when my (pretend) kid's names.
