uninviting family to the wedding ... RAnt

Williams10-11-12, on May 11, 2014 at 7:37 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

Sorry this a rant ... My mother has decided on uninviting my brother and sister in law. Long story short . Scene my brother was about 16 years old hes been really close to another family and basically abandoned my mom and I. He joined the military and then decided to talk to us again. All went down hill scene he got married. My mom was invited to their wedding ( not me but i had to work anyways) He didn't include her in the formal wedding photos ( even parents and groom pictures) but he took pictures with "the other family" .Any ways communication is getting worse and worse and He will not talk to my mom and didnt even tell her happy mothers day(OMG really she raised you as a single mom and you cant tell her thanks one day out of the year) So my mom does not want them there and now im 2 guest and one BM down. But its okay I guess Im done with all his crap I know Im the youngest but I am more mature then him. Sorry for the Rant Anyone else have brother/family issues?

We're not inviting FH's brother. He has 7 siblings, but M. is a total asshole and has stated "I can't wait to ruin FH's wedding." Nice. The important family will be there. FH seems unfazed about the whole situation.

FH wants to not invite his mother and stepfather. They have a complicated history and she raised him alone, but she's extremely narcissistic. She's only invited, so far, because I told FH to play nice. She's since insulted a couple of things about the wedding so I told him she better cool it because I'm the only saving grace she has to attend the wedding! FH would un-invite her in a heart beat!

FH uninvited his mom. they have never had a good relationship. she abandoned him at age 7 and sent him back from where they were living to Iowa to live with his dad, and didnt speak to him again until he was 18. she lived in Alaska for the last 10 years and moved back about 4 years ago and she and FH have been 'good' since, but since her bf of 4 years broke up she has been with 4 guys (LIVED WITH THEM ALL EVEN!) since and FH is just fed up. his cousins wedding is the day after ours which shes been clearly more concerned about than her own sons. they got into it the other day and FH finally said "you obviously care more about jeffs wedding than mine since you NEVER ask about how planning is or ask about any of it. thats why you can go to his and not mine!" she flipped out and they havent spoken since and that is how we're leaving it. its for the best. everything happens for a reason so i understand your situation. it's hard because its supposed to be 'family', but sometimes, that doesnt mean much to some people. theres a point where you have to quit being treated like crap and just move on. it will be fine Smiley smile we'd rather her not be there than FH have a bad day because shes there and have any drama with her poor me bullshit.

Yess I am having brother drama too!! My brother and SIL are in the wedding party but have complained that we have taken the attention from their wedding (they got married in March) just because I picked BM dresses out. Now my SIL says the dress is too expensive and she wants to find it somewhere else. Everyone got in this HUGE fight this weekend and now we aren't speaking. This is the very short story.. there was more to it but too much to get in to.

I would say if you aren't close with him, don't invite him.

    1. How old are you?

    2. Why does your mom get to decide if your brother and SIL are invited? It's your wedding. You control the guest list.

I understand wanting to be protective of your mother but it sounds as though the conflict really is between them. If you don't have an issue with your brother, don't you want him there with you? I'm sure there's a ton of information missing from this post, but I'm just playing the Devil's Advocate here.

My fiance didn't want his parents at our wedding and I am supporting him in that decision. They are very abusive/hateful people, and honestly who wants that kind of crap on your happy day! The people that are invited and coming are nothing but supportive and loving! Sure in a perfect world everyone would mind their manners and act like adults, but this isn't always the case. Focus on the ones that matter and let the rest fall away!

FH's oldest brother is a little bit on the self destructive side and his latest venture is getting engaged on and off to this ex drug addict who is both verbally and physically abusive. hes no saint they both get physical when they fight. so we decided not to allow her at our wedding (she's also said she doesnt like any of us) meaning his siblings and the women they are with. and of course the parents (who are enable the crap ouut fo him bc hes the problem child) are upset w us about it. thats also my IDGAF moment lol

I do not want to invite my mother's brother and wife. But my one grandmother (89 years of wisdom, my dad's mom) suggested it would be gracious to invite them. I'm going back and forth. I do not think they will actually show up (we ignore each other at social functions) but I'm worried they might come they can sit and gossip.

FH's oldest sister doesn't like me (no reason why). He text her to tell her we were getting married, he won't even tell me her response. I'm sure it's GREAT. Lol. You should join the IDGAF club. It's really quite nice not having to worry about all these other people Smiley smile

I have aunt I used to be close with. She totally forced me and my son out of her and her kids lives. I practically raised my cousin but haven't seen her since last August. She's super stubborn and won't talk to me not matter how hard I try, even when I told her I was getting married and wanted her to be a part of it. I'm not inviting her to the wedding because I don't want the extra stress but my grandma and the rest of the family want me to...

Wow. Sounds like my brother. He met this girl right before he left for basic training for the Air Force and all of this stuff. While he was gone, she started spreading rumors about myself and my friends. While he was stationed in Japan, he took a weeks leave to come home and have a shotgun wedding and now he doesn't talk to anyone but her family. I haven't talked to him in 3 years because of his wife and her lies about me. They definitely aren't going to be invited to my wedding. You're better off without him!

Im pretty sure my brother wont come to my wedding. We havent talked in over a year. He is 31 and still lives rent free in my parents basement. He is so ridiculous.. He makes all these Facebook posts about "big pimping", umm dude you live in a freaking basement, you are not pimping anything. He also treats people like shit qnd really has no friends.

My entire family isn't coming to my wedding. Honestly, at some point, enough is enough and the toxic drama has to go away.

I also have an aunt, my moms only sibling, who is not invited. She is a drug addict/alcoholic. We honestly have no idea where she lives- so that makes that decision pretty easy.

Yes you are not the only one. My sister was/is going to be my MOH. We met her and her family in Orlando for her family for her birthday. Spent money that was set aside for the wedding to go to Disney with her. It was what she wanted to do. We get there and she takes off. We don't see her the whole day even with trying numerous times. Fed up we left and headed home(thankfully we live in Florida) Now we are not talking, she is not going to allow my niece and nephew in the wedding but says she will come to support me. Haven't spoken since and don't think we will.
