Torn between 2 venues, what would you do?

Kenzie, on July 4, 2019 at 9:18 PM Posted in Planning 0 40
Hey guys! So I’m kinda struggling between two venues and needs some advice/insight I guess.

Originally I planned on getting married and having my reception in a Lodge in a local park. It’s only $2000 and you can get $400 back if everything is clean when done. It overlooks the river and provides tables and chairs but we’d have to rent linens, rent chairs for the outdoor ceremony (they have some metal chairs but I think I’d want to rent nicer ones) and there’s no bar. We do get Friday night - Sunday morning though which is nice. But I’m starting to feel this venue wasn’t as perfect as I first thought but I love the outdoor space for the ceremony!

so I found another venue that is more of a banquet hall and actually where me and my fiancé asked me to be his gf. It’s $650 + $3.50 a person (service fee), this includes set up, tear down, clean up, bussers, and linens. They also have table and chairs, a bar, a optional decorating service, and even a catering service you can go through if you want. Overall it’s about $900 cheaper than the first venue which is appealing. The only thing is I don’t know where to have my ceremony then, I don’t mind if it’s at a separate venue. They have an outdoor space at the venue but I’m not the biggest fan out it and I’m also struggling to find another place for the ceremony in the area that’s outdoors.

If you were me would you go for the ideal ceremony space that will overall cost $1000+ or go with the cheaper venue that is logistically easier to plan with?

First two photos are the lodge, second 2 photos are the banquet hall!

Your second option is a much better option. With a few decorations will totally transform the gazebo.

Also another thing I forgot to mention, the lodge venue is booked for pretty much every weekend in 2020 which is why we were planning 2021, but if we go with second option we’d have more options and be able to do 2020 which I kind of want. I don’t mind waiting, but I also wouldn’t mind a 2020 date if I had the option!

I'd probably choose the lodge simply because it's more unique than the banquet hall and I'd have more control over having it look the way I want as opposed to having it look like someone else's wedding. But I'm super non-traditional and want to make sure my wedding is like no one else's.

Thanks for the advice! I really think the reception venue is an amazing deal, I think I’m just struggling with imagining the gazebo decorated in a way I’d want.

As if they have pictures from previous weddings, it may be a good start. When I was thinking of decor I just perused the craft store to get some inspiration.

Yeah I do like the lodge for the uniqueness, especially because I like the rustic vibe it gives off. And I do kinda feel like all the weddings they have at this banquet hall all end up looking very similar with slightly different color schemes which is kind of off putting.

What one would you be more upset if you weren’t able to book? THAT is the one to go for.
The lodge view is stunning! The inside is pretty too. But I also like the inside of the other venue...
ultimately go for what is in budget and feel heart right( but Lodge is my vote!)

Ok. After reading your comment about being able to get married sooner if you choose the one, I'm on the fence. My engagement was just over 6 months because I didn't want to wait an additional year to marry my FH. That would be a really tough decision.

The short version of my story: I had a dream DW that I wanted. My FH proposed on Dec 30th. I had the choice of getting married this summer at a venue that wasn't my dream, although perfectly beautiful, or I could wait until next summer and have my dream DW. I went with the not-dream-venue because I didn't want to wait any longer to be married to my favorite human.

I would go with the one who give your more value. You can always come up with unique planing plans as far as a venue goes. Plus it sounds like number 2 has a special meaning to the both of you. If I’m not mistaken you said it’s available in 2020, then that would be the one I would go with!!

I had a very similar situation was going to have my wedding ceremony and reception at a park that only provides chairs and tables, however it was cheap. We could only stay in the park until 10 PM and would have been responsible for clean up and all set up, food, decorating, alcohol, etc.

It was too stressful and expensive for us to get the park 100% wedding and reception ready so we kept our ceremony at the park and are having our reception at a ballroom in a hotel about 15 minutes away from the park. Having peace of mind that the reception is going to be set up professionally is so worth it! I would strongly suggest going with the venue that will provide the most services.

The Lodge is beautiful! If I were you I'd go through and make a pro/ con list but if it were me I would have to go with the first choice!

I'd go with the lodge, if it was me. It's a breathtaking ceremony location and worth the extra money.

Just don't want you to have regrets.
Whatever your choice, go with your ❤🤞good luck !

I'd go with the banquet hall. With everything that they include in the package I think it's worth it!

When you say no bar at the lodge does that mean a physical bar or no alcohol allowed?

If you can wait and if alcohol is allowed I would go with the lodge. You get it for a few days, the outdoor space is amazing, the indoor space is unique, and you're not including service fees on the rental. I don't think you added that to the $650 plus $3.50 per person.
Does the 2nd venue charge a ceremony site fee? Add that too if they do plus service fee.

The set up and break down might be a hassle but you'll have time to do it. Even a good place for the RD.

The lodge has no physical bar but allows beer and wine, honestly not a make or break point for me but I think having a bar would be nice.

the $3.50 per person is the service fee for the banquet hall venue. I’m not sure about the ceremony site fee but honestly if we had our receipt there I think we’d probably try to have the ceremony at a different venue.
