To bustle or not to bustle?

I have read many posts and loved the pictures posted of dresses that will be bustled but I was looking at my son's wedding pictures (from 1991) and back then I don't know if bustles were common. My DIL had a loop on the train and wore it around her wrist - a really sweet and old fashioned look and I wondered if anyone here is not bustling their gown?

My dress is organza so I don't have to worry about the weight. When I tried on the dress they pinned it up the way they would recommend a bustle. I couldn't even tell it was bustled. My mother is way against it, but I think in the long run, if I am going to be dancing in the dress my train would get stepped on and torn. I'm still on the fence myself, but am leaning towards the bustle.

My dress is getting bustled for sure, I do love the look of the wrist loop if your dress is light enough to carry all night. My dress shop includes alterations with the cost of the dress but charges $150 extra for the french bustle =(. The dress shop that I got the bm dresses at does french bustles for $50-$75 depending on the dress, so I'm tempted to go there.

@Sami, just make sure that the place you got your bridesmaid dresses from will do alterations to a dress not purchased there. Not all will.

I got a french bustle on my dress. I didn't really want to, but it has a train and I'm not carrying it around.

I liked the way it looked, though, once it was done. I go back for second fitting in 2 weeks!

I'm not dancing, so I'm skipping the bustle, but I have a super short train

Lots of great opinions! My dress is organza so would not be that heavy. I am having a very small reception (20 to 30 people) and while there will be some dancing I have a feeling it won't be that much.

Thanks also to those of you who reminded us that the elastic strap is not what to use for a wrist strap - I did know that but there may be some who did not which would be understandable.

Since my dress needs to be altered anyway (way too long as I am a shortie at just under 5'4") I am going to see what it would look like bustled. That will also be a good time for me to gauge just how heavy the train is - you all may be right that it might be tiring to carry it around all evening.

For those of you " bustling" be sure to post pics!

Thank goodness for bustles!!! I loved the train on my dress and in the store was so excited to wear it. The minute I needed to walk even the slightest distance in it, I was ready to bustle it up!!!

Here's a pic of my bustle. and my daughter cutting in on my father/daughter dance. She wanted nothing to do with anyone dancing w/o her! Smiley smile

Anne Marie that is exactly the kind of look I want. I see your dress was lace - did it get heavy at all?

No, it wasn't heavy at all, it actually felt very natural. I did have to switch it from my right hand to my left to slow dance (to allow for being spun around)... but I loved it. I did change into a short dress for the more "active" dancing portion of the evening, but I could have easily danced in this dress as well (but maybe not with a drink in my hand). Smiley winking
