Theme Park Wedding

Kay v.1, on May 11, 2016 at 9:14 AM Posted in Planning 0 48

Hello ladies. I have this idea that I'm slowly falling in love with the more I plan it out in my head but wanted to see if others thought it would be as fun. I'm thinking of planning an intimate wedding of about 30 only parents, siblings, my kids, and 2-3 of both my and my FH's closest friends. Friday mid-day ceremony and reception would occur at Hard Rock hotel Universal Studios. We'd do a fairly short ceremony with a 1 hour cocktail reception (4 pass apps, alcohol, pasta station, and cake). I'd charter some type of bus to transport as many of the guests that would like to the location that morning. After reception we would hang out around the hotel (pool, spa, volleyball etc) and that night we would hit CityWalk for bars and music, etc. FH and I would also purchase Universal Studio tickets for everyone in the party that would like to attend for Saturday and we would venture the park together. It sounds so fun to me and would be a great time for our family and kids. Yay or nay?

Yay! Thanks for the responses ladies. I love it as well but since it is very different I don't think FH is sold on the idea just yet. But roughly looking at the numbers this route would probably be cheaper than the plan to have 90 guests at a banquet hall. We could skip out on costs of DJ, photographer would be less for only a few hours as opposed to 8+, less invitations needed, I'd probably stick with a fairly simple dress. And the tix to the park on Saturday for lets say 30 people will be discounted and we'd get Express Line tickets as a perk which is great. What a memorable experience for our whole family!

Only acceptable if I can go to the Harry Potter section with you.

ETA - there is so much to do there besides just roller coasters. if the kids are into HP, comics, the Simpsons, Dr. Seuss, etc. then they will be over the moon!

@Lindsey I'm not entirely sure, however there are plenty of other attractions besides coasters at the park. There's shows and trolleys around and such and plenty of things to just look at and admire. (Harry Potter land) I don't think my mother or MIL will actually walk the park due to physical restrictions however I bet they will have a lovely time lounging at the hotel by the pool chatting it up or getting a spa treatment.

@KellyIngyBaker The more the merrier! I've looked around these boards and I really believe this is one of those, host a small list very well type of situations. I don't feel like the typical wedding is horrible, but this fits our family so much as we are fun and laid back. I have 3 children and I bet the older ones will always remember mommy and daddys wedding where they got to do all these fun things. Also, what a great opportunity to have all of my in-laws acting a fool together like the grown kids they are Smiley winking. Ahhh, I hope I can make it happen.

YOU would pay for ME to go into the park with you???? Seriously???? I would be all over that in a heartbeat. If those close to you don't like the idea don't invite them. You don't need that kind of negativity.

This sounds like a fun alternative. Here are a couple things to think about while you plan:

    1) Will all your guests be able to afford staying at the hotel? If not, this could make coordinating difficult in the evening.

    2) Would you be disappointed in the group split up at the theme park? 30 people is a large group for a theme park and not everyone will want to ride everything at the same time, etc. You could perhaps set designated times and places for meals.

    3) In the evening do you want to be able to mingle with guests? Again 30 people at the bars/clubs in City Walk is going to be a lot! You might want to reserve a table but that can be expensive. Also, are people expecting you to buy their drinks that evening? You might want to make this clear to guests before hand if their drinks aren't included.

Thank you for your response Minerva as I needed help visualizing the logistics of this plan. At this time I think we'll plan for:

    1) Hopefully all guests can afford the hotel. I figured since its just parents/siblings/close friends and they're all local the maybe higher cost of hotel will cancel out them not having to pay travel costs. I do not have a completely accurate answer as to this just yet.

    2) I think it will be fine if we need to split the group. I already do not anticipate all 30 going to the park and a few of the 30 are younger children so switching off on rides, etc works for me!

3)I do plan on mingling with guests Friday evening. We definitely will not have all 30 go to City Walk what with older parents and young children. I'm looking into a babysitter. Also since these are my closest I'll explain to them drinks at CW probably will not be included; but I may consider extending the reception hours which will give us a bit more drinks and food that evening so we can just go out for music and dancing around CW.
