So my cousin got married this past Saturday. My family and I were invited so we went. It was an outdoor wedding and everything was beautiful. Until the reception. No cocktail hour no nothing. She had a tent set up and the tables were decorated beautifully. Well after the ceremony we all (60 of us) gathered in the tent where there was a sign that read "sit wherever you like." Thank goodness we got a table with people we knew. Well the food was salad and bread. That's it. Well I was thinking it was just an appetizer but no. That was it. There was no bar or anything just a lemonade stand! Well after the "food was done." That was it. No DJ, no dance floor no music..nothing. The bride and groom thanked everyone. Grabbed the card box and left. Also found out from my uncle that the grooms best man was a guy he met on Craigslist because he had no one else. Worst wedding ever!!! Let's here your stories?

Just recently went to a wedding for a family friend. It was their second marriage. It was held outside a country club. Very pretty. However, the weather was cold and raining. They STILL held it outside. No tent, no umbrellas, just rain. It was so cold. Then once the long, wet ceremony was done, they moved us inside for the 2 and a half our cocktail hour with a cash bar. By the time dinner was served, I was exhausted, wet, and starving. Not the best I've been too.

It was a plain salad with a choice of ranch or Italian. I understand she probably thought it was the best day ever and "how mean I sound" but when you invite 60 guests that most had to travel to get to then you better feed them. To me it felt like they did it to get the wedding gifts/cards and run. I should have known something when before the wedding her husband posted a GoFundMe account for money towards their wedding! If you can't afford one don't have one! She could of had a beautiful small wedding with family and called it a day! But shame on me for calling it the worst wedding! My goal for my wedding is to make sure that doesn't come out of any of my guests mouth and it should be everyone else's goals. The good thing was I got to see family I haven't seen in awhile and that was it. (Edit-This was mainly towards Celias comment!! Sorry if anyone took this wrong.)

OP I'm pretty sure everybody was agreeing with you and you mistook sarcasm for criticism! That is a horrible wedding and most people would feel the same way you do.

UO: These kinda threads always leave me with a bad taste in my mouth. Its one thing to try to help a bride from making a mistake like this but after the fact, what is your motive besides talking behind their back?

@colormeblu - I believe Celia's comment was all sarcasm up until she wrote "BS".

My cousins wedding was in August and it was HORRIBLE! I was in her bridal party and did not know what I was getting myself in to. Invitations went out and they said "BYOB" "Bring a side dish". They looked like shit and were hand written. A cousin had his iPOD hooked up to the speakers and was constantly skipping through songs and it sounded awful. Needless to say, they paid next nothing for their own wedding. The brides brother even hired a photographer and paid as well.

I've only been to 3 weddings. The one that sticks out in my mind as the "worst" is the one where there was a cash bar. I had never heard of cash bars before. I just assumed all weddings were always open bar LMAO!! Silly me!!

So anyway, one of my friends walked over with a drink in his hand. I asked him what he was drinking, and asked him if he could get me one as well. He asked if I hand any cash, and I just kinda gave him a blank stare, like "what??" Then he said, "Oh, its' not free. You have to pay." My jaw dropped and I made such an ugly face, that he started cracking up!!!

Several people left the wedding early, including me and my date. The bride was super offended by it, and told me afterwards. I apologized, but this was several years ago when I was very early 20's and didn't know the etiquette rules.

We were told to go to "cocktail hour" while the room was being flipped, and there were no cocktails in sight. Oh yes, it was a dry wedding, and they still called it cocktail hour. The food was also cold (after being left out at improper temperature, should not have even eaten it in retrospect), the (homemade) cupcakes were gross, and the dance floor turned into a child free -for- all (she should have seen that coming when they refused to host alcohol). Don't be like this bride.

I second @carspfern. I can't top that. I would've taken my gift back and left. Even if it was my cousin.

OMG Craigslist best man?! If that doesn't say anything about the groom I don't know what would!

I don't think my "worst wedding" could really compete, but it was definitely a cluster. It involved a super expensive tux for FH as a groomsman when the bridesmaids got to choose their dresses. A cocktail hour that had one bartender for 100+ people. Free-for-all reception seating. A small buffet that wasn't well planned for that number of guests (but at least we had food right?). An open bar that turned into a cash bar. The wedding party got pimped out for a dance off dollar dance. Oh! The bride and groom also didn't walk around to see people, so I never even got to meet the bride. We ended up leaving early. If we had known we'd be leaving the reception two hours early completely sober, we could've started back on the road to home (14 hour drive).
