So my cousin got married this past Saturday. My family and I were invited so we went. It was an outdoor wedding and everything was beautiful. Until the reception. No cocktail hour no nothing. She had a tent set up and the tables were decorated beautifully. Well after the ceremony we all (60 of us) gathered in the tent where there was a sign that read "sit wherever you like." Thank goodness we got a table with people we knew. Well the food was salad and bread. That's it. Well I was thinking it was just an appetizer but no. That was it. There was no bar or anything just a lemonade stand! Well after the "food was done." That was it. No DJ, no dance floor no music..nothing. The bride and groom thanked everyone. Grabbed the card box and left. Also found out from my uncle that the grooms best man was a guy he met on Craigslist because he had no one else. Worst wedding ever!!! Let's here your stories?

Salad and croissants after a 3 and 1/2 hour wait at a dear friend's wedding. Love them to death but that kinda sucked. They did have delicious cake and eventually some dancing but we missed the dancing because I had to work an overnight shift.

Are we talking greens salad or chicken salad (makes it slightly better if it's a salad you're supposed to eat on bread). Did they have cake?

What?! Ohh man, I purposely don't eat the entire day when I attend weddings because I've been so used to bounty of food at weddings. I'd be pretty shocked.

The sad thing is that the couple will probably be telling other people about what a success their wedding was and how no one minded that they didn't have a meal or alcohol.

Oh, you mean their friend and family didn't care (except you)? That they didn't love the couple so much that the mere transcendent joy of seeing the couple swear their love for each other wasn't enough to counteract the total lack of hospitality?

Shame on you for judgmental attitude on their 'special day' You know it's all about them, right?

BS. That is horrible. What a way to treat people you *care* about...

I'm not a fan of 'worse wedding' stories when the things that make it horrible are totally out of the couples' control, but that is almost never the case. Rain? Should have had a plan B. Food and alcohol? Yes. Lateness? Just don't. Those are just basics and considering them usually will make a wedding okay, if not spectacular. No one ever left a wedding muttering, 'damn....no favors. Those centerpieces ruined my night." And no one ever will.

Literally sounds like my personal hell. Well done to you for sticking it out. No alcohol would've had me running for the hills.

@KristenB - the lunch special @ Olive Garden serves soup so this couple saved even MORE money by not serving soup. Smiley smile

Last year I went to a dry, self-catered, destination wedding over Labor Day weekend in a super rural area that didn't have any hotels.

Wow....just wow. They should've just kept it simple with a pretty courthouse wedding or something if they could only afford to provide guests with salad and bread. I would've been so angry as a guest.

I don't understand why people do no offer alcohol, even beer or just wine would do it.

This is probably the worst thing I've ever read. I'd be so tempted to take my card/gift back! FH and I have had to leave weddings to go get food on the way home before because we were not fed/fed enough.
