The Knot wedding websites

Ally, on March 25, 2021 at 3:16 PM Posted in Planning 0 9
Random question..I know this is not The Knot, but has anyone done their wedding website on there? It looks like anyone can just type in a name and see if they RSVP’d yes or no, which is kinda weird. Does anyone know if I would get notified when someone types in their name to look up their invitation, or if I just get notified when someone actually RSVP’s?

I use The Knot for my website! You get notifications when someone RSVPs. You can also manually change their RSVP, and you will also get notified if they RSVP and then later on change their RSVP. I don't think you get notifications unless the RSVP status changes - so if you look up a name to see whether they are attending, you won't be notified.

Hmmm so if someone else looks up a different guest’s name will I get notified? 🤔 just seems odd all that info is public like that

I don't think you'll be notified if someone else looks up a different guest's name. Only if the RSVP changes. If the names being searchable is a concern, you could give each guest a unique "code" and list that as their name on the RSVP tool, and send the guest their code with their invite. That way, the code doesn't necessarily indicate the person's name, so guests can't look each other up. The downside to that is that you have to keep track of which code goes with which name. However, your guests likely won't look up someone else's reply, and if they do, it'd probably be just to see if people they are friends with are also planning on attending. They'd only be able to find the names of people they know (if those people were also invited).

You could also put a password on your website instead - that way, it's not public and you can use the names of your guests, but you would still have to send out the password with the website address to your guests.

WeddingWires website is the same way, where you can search for any guests name. I don’t understand it!! Seems very weird to me as well that any guest can search anyone’s name to see if they were invited or not.

I don't think there's really a good way for either site to know whether a person is searching for their own name or someone else's.

You'll only get notified when guests RSVP or change their RSVP status. If you're concerned about privacy, you can make your website password protected and provide your guests with the password.

I understand what the OP is saying. It seems like they're worried about gossipy or nosy people looking through the guest list. People are gonna be people and you can't change that. The best thing to do is make it password protected, so invitees can see other invitees, but at least non-invitees won't be able to see anything.

There's an option there you can set where you have your guestlist visible to other people if they have already RSVP'd yes (which I think is super weird lol) but that's about the only thing you can set as far as other guests seeing other names! It's weird that people can just type in other guests name and pretend they are that person just to see if they have RSVPd or not lol. As a guest, I would have never thought to do this 😂The Knot wedding websites 1

I only get notifications when someone RSVPs! You can also turn off the option for them to add people to their party as well!
