The difference between being mean and being truthful...

I'm just wondering if there is a difference between being a complete rude b!t#h and being honest. Growing up, I was taught to still be polite, even if I don't agree with someone and I still try and stick to that as much as I possibly can. I'm just wondering if anyone out there agrees with this or if...

I'm just wondering if there is a difference between being a complete rude b!t#h and being honest. Growing up, I was taught to still be polite, even if I don't agree with someone and I still try and stick to that as much as I possibly can. I'm just wondering if anyone out there agrees with this or if nobody really cares about how they might make someone else feel. Yes, i know that some people don't like to "sugarcoat " things or whatever, but that can still be done in a polite manner. Just wondering what is up with people these days, being so rude and inconsiderate.

I was taught the same thing. Just despite the lesson I never mastered it. Much like my mathematics. So I am a blunt person. I also prefer bluntness. Beating around the bush and sugarcoating things now just irks me. Especially, when I don't catch it the first time. It is one of the downfalls of being Deaf for me. But I have gotten better with it.

    @Teresa well said!

@Alexandria I'm confused, Brandi has been on here quite awhile..unless it was a joke b/w you two that went over my head then nevermind.

@Brandi-I think its unfortunate that people are making an example of you, if we don't at least speak out when we are dissatisfied with how people treat us either here or real life, how will anything ever change for the better;..u enabled some people to come forward who have felt that way on here, so thats good! If you keep getting flack I suggest deleting this thread so you don't have to stress about it :-)

@ Tiffany, I get what you are saying and thanks for your positive energy and thoughts. I see what Teresa is saying though. There are some people out there killing themselves over crap like this. Some people have emotional issues, and things like low self esteem and hopelessness. Sometimes all it takes is one rude or mean comment from someone to push that person to the edge. It's sad, but true.

And I completely understand and respect what your saying but there is a point in cyber reality that you flip a switch and you walk away. As parents, I think it is our due dilligence to monitor what goes on in our childrens lives and I think with a healthy esteem, these suicides and hurts wouldn't be our realities. I think we, as a people should focus on lifting one another up but its not likely. What is likely is that tonight, when all is said and done, i , much like most of you will shut down my smart phone and I won't give this another thought until I choose to look again tomorrow. I think we are definitely giving bullys way too much power and credit by placing blame. I will continue to say that in this world that we live in, it is vital that we learn to love ourselves. And not in a george michael, public restroom kind of way either Smiley winking

And btw... I know I can't spell Smiley smile

@ Kathy, I also agree about people being more nasty and saying harsher things online. It's easy for them to sit behind their computer and talk crap because they know that they will never come face to face with the people they are talking to. If some of these people were to say some of these things face to face, well...there would definately be things goin on that can't happen online...

Working in the behavioral health environment, I understand behavioral and mental health issues. My son, who many of you know, has Autism, ADHD and Bipolar concerns deals with bullying daily but he has learned two valuable life lessons.

    1. He is an awesome kiddo. And everybody who makes fun of him is just jealous of his incredible dance moves.

    2. He has a heavenly father who hears his hurts and is there to comfort him when some of those mean words get through.

This is getting way off topic... I just mean that people hurt. We are the hurters, the hurtees and sometimes we are the hurt onlookers. Its life. We say things, do things think things that are hurtful. Its human nature. I don't think that a single one of us intentionally carries malice in our back pockets for a rainy day.

Trolls are people who come on here, make fake accounts, and then create posts that are meant to cause drama. Yes, she is calling me a troll, but I've been on here for over two years and honestly, I don't even know who she is. She shoulda looked at my profile before posting that

Ignore her post. Some people just want to stir up crap and truly have no clue what they are doing. Case in point.

I think this is the sign of someone thinking that she is being cleaver and gaining some points with someone...not sure whom.

Dear Wedding Wire Gods, please give us a "Like" button Smiley smile

I feel the same way, Brandi. WW and I just didn't have a great day today. I'm a bit upset with myself for lashing out earlier (however, I refuse to take it back cause I meant every word), but I hit a breaking point. Think I need to stay away from the negative post, yeah, I will. I love this site, and I appreciate the help it brought me, so I am here to help others, and get a couple laughs in here and there.

I sometimes say things that probably aren't worded the best way. It's hard to find a medium between truthful and being mean. Because, it depends on how a person interprets what is said. It can go either way. My mom is a very blunt woman. Tells me that I have to lose weight all the time, blah blah. But her intent is good. It used to hurt me but I've started to just let it go and take it that that is just how she is. The problem with being online is, we don't know how the person is really like and some people's bluntness we just can't handle.

@ Sharon, I do agree that online it can be hard to interpret what people are saying because we can't hear people and how their voice is and we don't know them too well. But when it's face to face it's easy to see if someon's being rude. I get what you're saying about your mom though. My grandma is the same way. She says things because she cares, but she doesn't say them in a very loving/ caring way. I already know how she is though and I'm used to it.
