Tan lines....what are you doing to prevent them?

onawho, on June 28, 2015 at 8:43 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

Yesterday I went to see and try on my dress for the first time. Its beautiful and everything that I envisioned. (custom).

The one issue I see are my tan lines. FH and I live in FL. We walk most mornings and on the weekends I am at Farmer's Markets running my business's booth. Again out in the sun.

What do you think would be best? A long sleeved light weight shirt or just start tanning to even out the lines?

The front is not too noticible, its the back. The back of the dress is a deep V and you can see the racer back lines from the workout shirts and my sports bra.

I was concerned about this too at first. I started wearing different shirt styles and it's a lot better but my makeup artist will handle it on my wedding day.

#floridaproblems... We live in FL too. I got a spray for our e-pics and it was amazing but it still wasn't even enough. It drives me insane that you can still see my tan lines in the pictures because my other tan was so dark. FH works on a boat outside and he wears long sleeves all the time. He gets the Columbia PFG lightweight ones not the fishing style ones. Its so hard to keep it even but I think a spray would at least even it out a bit.

I already have crazy tan lines too and a strapless dress. And I wear sunscreen all the time. I am going to get a spray tan and see if it does any good.

I also live near the beach, so I've been super conscious of this every time I'm outside lately. I have a very, very faint string halter line that I don't think will be noticeable in my strapless. Really, I've just been laying out in a strapless bikini as much as possible. Worst case scenario, I"ll get a spray tan! LOL!

I spend every weekend in a strapless bikini basking in the sun to get rid of any residue sports bra tan lines from the week.

Ask your photographer before you try spray tans. Some will reflect oddly and make your skin look very unnatural. I live in SoCal so I have the same problem. I'm honestly just leaning towards letting the photographer edit them in post production and not worry about trying to "fix" it.

Yes same here huge concern for me too. My dress is your typical strapless gown with a moderately open back, enough where I wouldn't want tan lines. I am a huge outdoors person. This year I bought a strapless bathing suit top. Still, I realize there's no avoiding the tan lines, especially this past week. In fhs corvette, nice day, he took the top down and the sun was beating on us. I felt like a prude whining g to him that I was going to get weird tan lines from driving in the convertible with him. I'm starting to think there's no avoiding it. I'm not going to stress about it anymore, what with spray tanning and talented makeup artists, I'm sure we can get around the tan line thing.

If you're getting airbrush make up, the MUA can airbrush and tan lines that can be seen as well.

I have the same issue - my sports bra tan is year round, and my breast size makes it very uncomfortable for me to wear strapless bikinis. So I am wearing spaghetti straps to work in the yard, I'll spray tan the weeks before, but hopefully it will be even-ish. I am wearing my hair down, so if it's not perfect, I'm hoping it's not as obvious.

It's sad to say but I started working on not having them a couple years before the wedding by only wearing a strapless bikini or pulling the straps off while I was tanning. I've seen a lot of brides with bad tan lines in their wedding pics and it makes me cringe! I have no advice except using major sunblock in areas you don't want more tan and using tanning lotion or oil for the areas that need to get darker.

    Great advice girls!

I think I am going to go with the long sleeve shirt route. My MUA will be able to blend in my chest/ neck area, its the open back that has me stumped.

May be if I go and get a couple exfoliating back facial things? Will that exfoliated the skin enough.

I think I may have to so some topless (backless) tanning out in the back yard too.

I was thinking of the spray tan option; my only concern is that I am in FL and getting married in OR and leaving for OR a week before and I don't know any tanning salons in that area.

Wear sunscreen wherever you are outside. And make sure to reapply every two hours. Using sunscreen when you are out at the farmers market, running/walking, riding in a convertible or spending time outside will keep you from getting awkward tan lines, plus it will protect your skin.

I have been *gasp* going to a tanning salon once a week for a bit, nothing crazy, but since I'm crazy pale I've gotten just enough to keep tan lines at bay, and if I am outside for an extended period of time I'm either in a strapless shirt or wearing spf 60 haha

I was kinda worried about this, too, especially since I'm trying to swim regularly to get healthier. Luckily my swimsuit matches up pretty well with the cut of my dress - really good thing since I completely cooked myself one day when I failed to put on sunblock!

A tanning bed will even you out if you have enough time. Maybe a good month or two before the wedding. And be cautious of the shirts you chose to wear to the farmers market! Smiley smile
