How does everyone feel about Taffeta wedding dresses? I always hear horror stories about Taffeta!

Well I had more of an issue wearing it, to me it felt like a sheet against my skin, I didn't like that for a dress..Also just my personal preference don't like dresses that look like down comforters (not all taffeta does tho) depends on the dress I think :-)

I hated the way the material felt...It was almost like wearing a sweat suit (swishy kind).

I'm still not sure how I feel about Taffeta... but it's what my gown is made of!!

I kind of wanted something lighter, fluffier, more "romantic"... but there were so many other things about the dress that I loved, including how it looked on me! (so much better and with beaded detail than the model pic shows)

My biggest concern is water spots. I know taffeta gets moisture stains pretty easily if you get any type of spill, drip, condensation, etc, on it..

The stiffness of Taffeta can make some really nice looking dresses cause it holds its shape well therefore you can do alot with it. But at the same time...it still remains stiff and I dont care how good it would make my dress look...I dont want a stiff dress on my wedding day. I like softer fabrics, like silk, satin, organza, lace and Chiffon.

I tried on a lot of taffeta and liked it a lot better than the heavy satin gowns. I didn't like the noise, but it's so much lighter than all the satin dresses I tried on. My dress is chiffon. love it!

Hm, not sure if I'm on the same page but I had a taffeta dress, and it didn't look like a down conforter, it didn't feel like sweat suit and it didn't make swishy noise.

Ha, Jessica, that's a Sophia Tolli dress!

If you love the dress, that's all that matters. If 100 people on the internet said they hated taffeta and blah blah blah, but you love it, why even stress? Some people are fabric snobs and look down their noses to every thing that wasn't spun from the silk of the rare Japanese moon glow silk worm that only spins silk on the first full moon of the third month of summer. (I totally just made that up)

So there is always going to be someone who thinks this fabric shouldn't be used for wedding dresses or whatever, but as long as you love it, who cares. Are you inviting taffeta haters to your wedding? lol

I'm not big on taffeta. I prefer chiffon silk or organza, but that's in part because it falls softer than taffeta. I've seen and tried on some beautiful taffeta gowns, but didn't feel it was right for me. I will say though, white taffeta is WHITE!

If you love the taffeta dress, then go for it! It looks lovely, it just depends on what style you are going for. I feel taffeta is much more modern/classy/edgy than lace or silk which is softer and more along the rustic/vintage/soft side. IMO, taffeta has a lot more attitude Smiley winking

There's different kinds of taffeta. The quality also matters. I liked a couple taffeta dresses, but they weren't really "me". I like organza and it's lighter look.

My dress is Tafetta and I love it. I think any fabric you choose might have some slight down side so just go with what you love.

With taffeta, you get what you pay for. If it's nice taffeta, it looks amazing and hold up well (my dress was taffeta). If not, it looks like a stiff prom dress from circa 1982.
