So we have decided to do a taco bar for the wedding. We live in New Mexico on the border so enough said Smiley winking We are looking at 150 people. I have ideas for how much quantity and everything but what I need to know is a generic price range for this. FH is going to make up all the meat and we will have a friend who is a caterer make the rest of the prep stuff the morning of so all I really need to know is about how much it will cost. How far out can I make homemade salsas and cut up toppings??

Weddings are hell WITHOUT trying to DIY when it comes to catering. Don't be cheap. Put out for a caterer or wait until you can afford to. It's not only possibly hazardous, but also very time consuming and stressful.

On the salsas topic: If you know how to properly can food, you can make them in advance and store them, they should be fine for a few months.

Ya know, as I was typing my response I was fully aware this may be a post simply to start shit (subject matter was kind of a give away). I gave her the benefit of the doubt. Now...not so sure

I hate to say it, but with the wedding date a month and a half away and given the previous post, it's a little odd.

Wow most of you are so mean. Yes that was my first post before and I thought I would give it a try again. Soooo this is my freaking journey not yours. Why does it matter that we are getting married within five months of being together? People know each other for years before hand ie my first marriage and still end up in divorce. We know what we want to do and so we are moving forward. Everyone in our lives are supportive. You all make a good point about health concerns. We are using the industrial kitchen at our church but it just might be easier to have our catering friend do it. I made my guest list and yes it's not small. We want to be able to share our day with our church family here and do a simple reception. Also I changed my picture this morning from the rings but it's not changed yet. Soooo that being said I'm not a troll I'm a real person with feelings and I didn't ask for your nasty negative comments. Comments on these boards are supposed to be supportive.

    OP - This isn't a support group. It's a forum.

@maryjaneperkins11 - In regards to trying to prepare a meal for 150 people on your wedding day, there is a bride looking for support in another thread who is currently crying because despite not doing ANYTHING herself, she didn't get the photos she wanted because she was too busy during the wedding and reception to make sure they happened.

A bride who has someone doing everything for her is overwhelmingly busy. A bride who is cooking for 150.... well, she pretty much won't be at her own wedding, and it's something you can never get back.

"Comments on these boards are supposed to be supportive." Sorry, OP, but when we see an idea we know could go horribly wrong (like making your own meat), we're going to tell you. We're not going to be "supportive" of something that's just not a good idea.

My comment on whats the rush was more so you're planning a fairly large wedding in a month. Do whatever you want, whatever.. I was just curious. I gave myself 15 months to plan and it's still overwhelming, I couldn't imagine a month...

    sheesh, put the brakes on.

It's perfectly normal for people to be curious when someone pops up saying, "we met 2 months ago, we are getting married in a month."

Mmmmmmmmm. It's not just easier for your friend to do it, it's SAFER also, is she a close friend? Because she won't be able to actually be at your wedding if she's working the reception. Also, it's shown that it generally takes 1.5-2 years to get out of the "honeymoon period" of dating. So it's likely that you don't really know your sig other. We're just trying to help. I don't really see how you can know someone after 2 months, were you friends for long before? Also, yes people that know each other for a long time have marriages that fail, but people that jump into marriage without knowing each other are exponentially more likely to fail.

OP -The DIY taco meat sounded like such a train wreck, we felt compelled to warn you.

You won't receive blind support on these forums. You WILL receive honest advice from others who are planning/have planned weddings and may have insights you don't.

I understand not being supportive of something that wouldn't go well but saying negative things does not help. I'm going to look into the catering with her. Now granted I've been planing for over two months I also planned my first wedding in 18 months. I'm a teacher school is out tomorrow soooo I'll also have a lot of time on my hands to prepare. Also I can't really get married during the school year and he can't later BC of work. Soooo July it is. That's what counseling and our pre marriage classes at our church are for. We are getting support from everyone around us and at our church
