SWR: I'm not photogenic...what if none of my wedding pics come out right?

ncbride, on August 15, 2010 at 11:02 PM Posted in Planning 0 48

Aside from what my hair and make up would look like... this is my biggest worry!! Any of you ladies have this same worry?

Hire a a quality photograher and you will be fine. They have many years of experience and know how to edit images properly. Also, most take a large number of pictures...so your bound to get some that are really pretty.

@AprilBride...the problem is our photographer comes with a package that we bought...we felt comfortable with him when he took our engagement pictures.... but I find that I don't like most of them...now I am thinking I should ask the company to try out another one of their photographers... I just don't want them to say it's not their fault that I don't know how to pose for pictures..

NCBride...I am so saddened to hear this. A good professional photographer should know how to post you in was that are flattering to you. It is not your job to know how to pose for photos. That is part of what people are paying me for...my expertise in knowing the best way to pose my subject. Keep in mind that you will be glowing and happy on your wedding day, which will automatically lend itself toward beautiful photos. Hopefully you've invested in a makeup artist for your wedding day. This too will help. What is it about your engagement photos that you don't like? Is it the lighting, the angles of the shots, the poses? Do you have a favorite side you like to present to the camera? Hopefully some of this will help when you meet with your photographer before your wedding (which should be part of your photography services). Feel free to contact me privately if you want to go into deeper discussions. Try not to worry too much...I'm sure you will look beautiful!

Well you have to make sure if you have a strapless dress to leave the top two hooks undone because it keeps the "back fat" from hanging out. It sounds weird but it works. Other than that I would relax and let your photog do his/her job.

@Steph... thank you so much for responding... I don't like the poses...and the angle of the shots.. the lighting I think was ok, because with my sub par make up, my skin looked radiant...but I didn't like some of the poses at all....for example, FH and I are about the same height...and he was asked to lift one of my leg up (see Lisa K prof pic).. he looked like he was struggling because his arms were not long enough....Regarding a favorite side that I like to present to the camera... I am working on trying to figure that out. I just always shy away from cameras when I could... I do have pictures that I like of myself, but I could never do the same pose and like the outcome a second time

Honey you will be SO happy that it won't matter! So many people think they're "un-photogenic" but it's all about confidence. Honestly, my mom and I have the same exact face but she's "less photogenic" because of the way she carries herself. But in the pics of us, I could care less. I LOVE how happy she is. OWN YOU, sweetie! I'm attaching pics of her not posing and posing. You just have to relax and be yourself!

NCBride, I model part time and the photographers I work with are AMAZING!! m If you saw me during the day, I look so drab. But lighting, make-up, etc and yes you TOO can be a Supermodel bride!(giggles). Don't worry about this, you'll be just fine!

@ncbride, with your personality, you have nothing to worry about! I'm sure they'll be great...just dont try to focus on anything....act like the camera isn't there.

@ His Mrs. P... thanks....I really hope they will be.

I will also have a friend take some outdoor e-pics for us...and I would see how that goes...I will use that session to find the side that I like to present to the camera ... etc..

I feel you. It isn't really something I've been stressing about because my photographer is good and I trust she won't take unflattering pictures of me, but I understand how you're feeling cus I'm not really photogenic about. Also..if there's anything in particular you are self conscious about..you should let your photographer know about it. My best advice is to smile a lot...everyone looks beautiful with a smile on their face...you're pics will turn out beautiful I'm sure.

@Mrs. Turner... thank you... I guess there are a few things that I am uncomfortable with...so maybe if I tell my photographer he can tell me how to pose so as to not highlight those areas...

Your prof pic is beautiful by the way...my e-pics were indoors...I really like the more outdoor, whimsical type pics as well...if a photographer could take a shot while I'm not posing...and it is a stunning shot ... I would be sooo pleased.. I hate posing.

Everyone is photogenic. Sometimes it takes more work to find that side of them, and to bring it out and capture it on film, but everyone is photogenic. So, certainly, do what you can to find a better photographer but on your day you need to focus on the fact that you look beautiful and you need to be happy! Don't worry about photos, just worry about being yourself and you'll be just fine. If you need to, take your MoH or someone else that makes you laugh and have them "entertain" you during the formals!

My profile pic was for my stupid "bridal portraits" that my mother made me do (she paid for them bc there was NO way in hell that I was paying for pics of myself!) and my mom said my dogs' names and it made me laugh.

I too found that remark a little odd. I would be sooo offended if my photographer suggested I undo the top buttons so there wouldn't be any back fat! I'd fire them in a second!

I totally rocked my dress fat and all. I could barely breathe in my dress bc I gained weight. But I'm happy so I could give a sh!t less! I would be punching someone in the nose over that! LOL.
