Surprise Christmas Wedding!!!

Heidi, on June 15, 2010 at 12:14 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

My fiance wants to get married tommorrow! lol Originaly we had our wedding planned for April 2011 but I changed my mind and want to get married at Xmas (my fav time of year.) My fiance thinks I'm talking about 2011 but I'm thinking about surprising him and doing it this year if I can get it organised. Money is going to be tight so any suggestions on how to save money? Anyone have any ideas on xmas wedding decorations? I'm going to scale it down and instead of 200 people am going to try and keep it to 50.

You could do navy and silver and do snowflakes as your theme...

A lot of venues may already be decorated for the holidays. When you go for a site tour, ask what decorations/colors they typically use. This may help you decide on colors AND be helpful in keeping your decorating costs down!

I wanted to have a Christmas wedding, but the timing didn't work out for me. I was going to decorate with hundreds of Poinsettias. they are very inexpensive and really add to the holiday spirit.

I was going to give Christmas ornaments with our names/wedding date for favors.

if you are marrying in a church, they are often already decorated for Christmas.

A candle-light service would be BEAUTIFUL.

Thanks everyone. Because I've already bought alot of stuff for the wedding which was going to be in April, my colors are Ivory, Black and Deep red. I think I can incorporate this into xmas colors. Love the idea about the Poinsettia's.

Obviously poinsettias are in season, but so are amaryllis, & paper whites. Of course you can always get white poinsettias and spray paint them any color you want (it's called design master and you can get it at most craft stores).

White roses, red hypericum berries and lot of candles for centerpieces will make it very romantic...And since you'll have only 50 people will make it very cozy and intimate

Simple to elaborate snowflake ornaments can be used as favors. I would skip the personlization unless you did the guests names on them. A guest book idea would be to have them sign ornaments you could use on your christmas tree for the rest of your marrige.

Love it! Plus, you wont have to pay for the flowers for the church since they will probably just leave the x-mas floral arrangments out. And your venue will prob have x-mas decoration set up. Your photos will be super cute - think dancing infront of a chritmas tree!!!

I helped plan a wedding this past December which was 6 days before X-Mas. The centerpieces were simple but looked great with the candle light. I told my couple to get simple clear vases (Dollar Tree/99c Store) add pine cones, colorful ornaments and maybe some garland around the bottom of it. Add candles around the centerpiece, it will look amazing. Also my clients did have the red ornament favors to give out, which sat at each place setting. It had both of their names and wedding date on them. Every year them and their guests can add that to their trees and remember that special day. Good Luck!

Ohhhhh!!! I soooo wanted to do a New Year's Eve wedding so I could do all of this. For favors, you could buy the plain glass ornaments (Michales), fill them with that sparkly fake snow and use rub-ons (scrapbooking stuff) to put your names and the date on them. Tie 'em with a cute ribbon.

Baby blue and snow white would be beautiful colours. Sparkly snow flakes hanging from the ceiling.... Hmm... I'm supposed to get married on the 2nd... but I may have to change to a winter wedding. Just kidding.

While I love the idea of a Christmas wedding, I am a little confused also about the "surprise" part. I mean if it is surprise for your guests, Ok, but are your saying you want to surprise your FH???

What about guests or are you going to communicate to all of them that it is a suprise too? Don't forget that Christmas is a very busy time of year for everything. If you do plan on doing this you need to find your venue and caterer ASAP. A give any guests that will need to travel a heads up. Depending on your faith, you may also not be able to be wed in the church.
