We had to push our wedding date back to Sunday, August 23rd. I’m struggling with choosing a start time. I love the idea of a 2 pm wedding but we want it to be semi formal. I don’t know if that would work. I’d love to hear your thoughts & know what you’re doing.

Excellent point! And we’re getting married the same day! Stay safe out there!

Nice! August 23rd seems like a promising date, hoping the current situation will look much better by then. Stay safe as well!

I vote for an earlier start time on a Sunday. Guests typically don't like to stay out as late. I think a formal dress code is perfectly fine, it's a wedding! LOL
My FH and I are having our wedding reception on Sunday also. Our wedding starts at 6pm and ends at 12am. Last year we attended a wedding on a Sunday and it wasn’t so bad. I would definitely recommend choosing a time that works for the both of you. Consider the fact that if you do choose an evening reception all of your guest might not stay until the end. Be considerate, but also do what you both want.
I would think 2 would be a good time. If any of your guests go to church locally they would generally still be able to go to church and still make your wedding. And since most guests would be going to work Monday morning, then 2pm would be early enough for them to party well and still make work.
I’ve also been pushed back to a Sunday in August. Not ideal but at this point we’re just happy to have a wedding date. Also at this point, I’d say rules go out the window. Do whatever makes sense for your plans and your guests. We’re getting married outside so I’m trying to keep in mind the suns path across the sky during the day. Our ceremony begins at 5.

I would count on people leaving early —- our wedding is scheduled for 9/20/2020 which is also a Sunday; I’m thinking 4:30–10:15 (30 to 45 ceremony) (1hr cocktail hour) and reception 6-10pm with the 15 minutes being early exit for the guests to prepare for the exit, last dance for us, and the grand exit.. it’s a Sunday and if we plan for the early departure of our guests who will still work Monday; I feel like we avoid having a longer wedding and a wedding where everyone is gone by the time we finish. 👍🏼 Good luck and hope this helps!!!
