Summer 2021 Wedding

Elizabeth, on October 26, 2020 at 1:36 PM Posted in California Planning 0 2

Hi everyone!

I got engaged in December of 2019 and we had in mind to have our wedding in 2020, but I pushed to early 2021 because I wanted to have time to plan. I was getting things planned in January of this year and then COVID happened and put everything on pause. My FH and I were able to finally set a date and book our venue for 7/4/2021. We finalized the venue in June of this year thinking things will get better, but we're basically left in the dark with what will happen and I've put all my planning on pause and have just been depressed about it. I haven't gone dress shopping for my gown, no photographer or any other vendors booked.

Our venue thankfully is a package deal and does the catering as well and we were able to meet with the vendor manager recently and confirm if we can't use the venue (since it's indoors) on our date next year the deposit we made will go towards catering. The problem is we don't have a back-up for anywhere to do the ceremony or reception. I'm Armenian, so weddings are a big thing and I've dreamed of this day for my whole life. Our guest count is almost 200 and I can cut back a little, I just honestly don't know what to do anymore. I want to start booking more vendors, but just worried we will pay all these deposits and lose out on a lot of money and we can't afford that right now since we're also house hunting.

I know a lot of people are doing backyard weddings at mansions/ large properties, but I keep hearing of those being fined or shut down and some have a no dancing policy which breaks my heart because my family is HUGE on dancing. I want everyone to be safe and just don't know what the future will bring for summer of next year. I'm located in Southern California and our venue is in Glendale if that helps. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Elizabeth! Your stress in the face of so much uncertainty is totally valid! We all hope things will be better next year but don't really know how long gathering restrictions will be in place.

I think the first thing should be figuring out your Plan B - in the worst case scenario, would you rather postpone for a full 200 person party or keep your date and downsize to 100 or even less than 50 guests? I'd also go ahead and keep booking vendors, but spend lots of time talking about postponement and cancelation policies!

    Hi Lynnie,

Thank you so much for commenting! I know it's been so stressful for everyone and I think the way things are going I will need to find a backup just in case. I'm going to look into the groups you mentioned to get some reassurance and ideas Smiley smile thank you again!
