Suit Rental Deposit?

SoontobeJB, on August 15, 2015 at 2:59 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

FH finally went to look at suits today -___- he went to two places, one of them didn't have pricing because the person that handles the rentals wasn't in today so he's going back tomorrow. The second place said he has to leave a $500 deposit for a $150 rental. Is this typical??? That sounds super expensive to me. He said he's gonna checkout a suit store to check out prices on purchasing a suit instead, I told him I'd ask in here if that's a typical deposit amount.

FH and the groomsmen are purchasing suits so there was no deposit for me to compare, but $500 seems quite high to me.

We are renting tuxedos from our local Pebbles store for around $75 per tux. Maybe you could check into your local stores and see if they do rentals

I must say at $500 for a deposit seems a lot. I can't think of a time when the deposit cost more than the product.

That doesn't seem right. Our deposit was $50 to hold a price for all of the tuxes, not just FH's tux.

Same thing happened to my fiancé. $200 rental suit package but they asked him for $500-700 to "reserve" the groomsmens' spots and b/c the "deal may not be available" so they want us to have the deal sealed.oh Please!

They just say that to get $ up front. That suit deal has always been there. Not to mention 1 mgr said give them $300 dep and another said $500-700 so just shows that they are full of it and want money up front. They claim once each groomsman calls & pays for their rental, my fiancé gets his deposit back. We left feeling pressured and may go back but are looking into other stores.

If he decides he still wants to rent, check out Zellers. It's on 5th Ave in the 80s (bayridge). That's where we are probably renting from if FH decides to rent. They have decent prices.

That's crazy! We did have to sign a contract about damages, missing suits, yada yada. But the deposit is only $50 on each suit (which rent for $150 each). This is at Tip Top Tux. Keep shopping!

We went local and it was only a 40$ reserve fee for as many tuxes that we need. FH tux is covered by that and any accessories he needs for the day.

Ours is a $30 deposit for each tux that costs $116.71 each. Each GM will call in with their measurements and also leave the $30 deposit. The rest can be payed in small payments or in full upon pickup.

ETA: we are renting tuxes not suits.

We also wrote up a receipt and didn't have to pay anything to "reserve" prices/deals.

500$ is a scam. Way to much, thats how much a suit cost. My fh and his men are renting its 40$ deposit for a 150$ rental fee. To buy it was 530$ this is at mens wearhouse.

I'm the outlier here. I don't think a $500 deposit is that crazy. The rentals are likely more expensive suits, the replacement cost could easily be $500 or more. My dh handled the tuxes, but I think we gave them a credit card as a deposit and they would charge it for any damages.

@Natalie the suit rentals were also Jims Formalwear and they wanted $500 cash, super weird.
