SPINOFF: Does anyone have a small engagement ring? And...

SLE to SLG, on February 12, 2015 at 9:54 PM

...do you love it? What wedding band did/are you getting? My ring is a round cut, solitaire, about .25 carat diamond, and I adore it. I'm hoping to go look at wedding bands with FH this weekend, and was wondering what the ladies of WW have, like and/or recommend?

My ring isn't small, but i totally get what you're talking about JK Ring-Judgement is REAL and quite upsetting.

I think everyone likes different things & its really not about the ring, its about the sentiment behind it and the fact that you've found someone you are going to spend the rest of your life with (hopefully).

Yeah, I remember first showing my ring to someone and having the response 'oh, that's cute'. I wanted to claw her eyes out. Just because who says that about someone's diamond engagement ring??

In my family my ring is actually huge lol. It's a single stone about 1/3 of a carat and I absolutely adore it. I picked it out with FH and was very firm about not spending too much money (he had this crazy idea that he was supposed to spend 2 months wages on it). I shot that idea down. But we went to a friend of his who's family have been in the jewellery business for the last 100 years and he gave us an amazing deal.

About 4 of us where I live all got engaged around the same time and two of the girls got these huge 1 carat deals. But the funny thing is, and I don't mean this boastfully just honest, the quality of my smaller diamond is way higher. So size really doesn't matter. Plus it's all about the sentimental value anyway.

I don't have any amazing pictures, but this is mine

In my opinion my ring isn't small, it's .75 solitaire and the cut is beautiful. It's perfect for my personality, I'm not a blingy person at all. But some people have commented on it's size, one of my colleagues even say "Oh, mine is bigger, my husband must love me more than your fiancé loves you!" Maybe it was a joke, but it seemed to have some cattiness behind it.

I love my ring... its a .5k solitaire and the band has a small diamonds that add up to about .5k. They look really pretty together.

Regardless of future diamond size... I've been eyeing a thin hammered white gold band, such as below! I love simple looks.

Wtf jk? I don't understand why anyone would feel the need to "subtly criticize" ring size. People are nuts. I, personally, love seeing all rings.

@Janeen - unfortunately people do. I mean when I got the 'oh that's cute' said in a really patronising tone, I was shocked. Because even if you do think it's small you don't SAY it!

My center stone is .33 carats and I love it. My hands are so tiny, I don't think I'd like the way something much bigger would look.

Lol honestly, all a big ring means is that you were suckered into deBeers marketing genius. Diamonds don't really hold their value (except sentimental, of course). I say this as someone who has a larger ring too. I love hearing the stories behind rings.

@Ally I was definitely taken aback by her comment, but I decided to just let it slide. Everyone has different tastes, I think mine is beautiful (as are a lot of rings from what I can see!) and in the end it's the sentiment behind the ring that truly matters.

I love my ring, but it is considered small to standards these days, especially compared to the girls in my highschool "circle". I LOVE my ring, but it's definitely a quality over quantity ring. People would never be able to guess how much FH actually paid for it by just looking at it.

My mother tried to tell my FH that anything less than a carat was unaceptable, and that the ring also needed to be platinum. She be crazy.

So mine is .7 carats, with sapharies on the sides, I LOVE it. It is unique, and fits my personality to a T. It is a squared emerald cut, so it honestly looks bigger, and FH and I agreed to just never tell her it wasn't a full carat.

For FH's family my ring is HUGE. Lol, but my family definitely makes comments behind our back. I dont really care though, I love my ring. Some of the prettiest rings I have seen are smaller ones! And I am not a fan of the ones with diamonds all the way around, or are so big and high that people hit them all the time.

The thing is, you can get a huge diamond, sure, but it will cost a fortune for good quality. I see a lot of 2cts that are yellow because of this. The bigger it is, the easier it is to see imperfection.

KM - I have the same setting. My diamond isn't that big but the quality is great, 1 carat VS2.
