SPINOFF: Does anyone have a small engagement ring? And...

SLE to SLG, on February 12, 2015 at 9:54 PM

...do you love it? What wedding band did/are you getting? My ring is a round cut, solitaire, about .25 carat diamond, and I adore it. I'm hoping to go look at wedding bands with FH this weekend, and was wondering what the ladies of WW have, like and/or recommend?

My SO has had his wedding band of choice picked out for a long time, I wanted to match his.. Plus, this won't detract from the center stone too.

My ring is smaller than some of the rings I see on here. It is a round diamond solitaire. I absolutely love it! I have my exact ring. I picked it out lol. I am not a flashy person at all when it comes to jewelry, so it just fits me. This is it with the band we bought.

The rumor was that her mom went in and traded a bunch of jewelry so that her boyfriend could afford a bigger ring. The moms in my hometown are in this weird clique and are constantly competing over "status". The competition now is which one of their daughters gets the biggest ring. The ring absolutely doesn't fit the seriously humble personality of this girl. She's the sweetest, most down to earth person, so I was a little surprised, but hey...

My ring is huge for both sides of our family. My family was impressed by FH's generosity, and his dad said that it was a good fit for me. FMIL however told FH that he spent way too much on me, but FFIL said she's just upset because she lost her original ring a few years back and he refused to buy an upgrade, since she A) left it at a nail salon and stopped paying for the insurance on it and B) he just bought her a new ring last year, but she won't wear it because it's a white sapphire and not a diamond. FSIL threw a fit though that my ring was "bigger" and made her husband buy her an upgrade... They were actually, and still are around the same total weight. The difference is hers is a 3 stone, and mine has a larger center stone with the halo.

I think good quality diamonds or gemstones of any kind are pretty! No matter their size.

Quality definitely matters over quantity. If you have a 2 carat solitaire that is a K and a I3 is much worse than a .5 carat D and VSI1.

My center stone is .78 carat, and I can't imagine wanting anything bigger--it's sized appropriately for my hand. The only reason I even ended up with this size is because the center stone was repurposed from a family ring (possibly my great-grandmother's?). I went with FH to pick out the ring (well, the setting), and if we had been buying the diamond, there's no way I would have let him spend as much as a decent stone of that size would have cost. Can't believe some of the rude comments people are hearing!

Mine is 3/8 carat. I'm not a big jewelry person so this is the perfect size for me. I also only wanted a solitaire because I know so many people who have lost side and accent stones out of their rings. I like how mine as a nice, little twist in the band.

Ally, that wedding band is what I got! It's being made and should be here in 2-4 weeks, I can't wait!

People are rude about all sorts of things to do with rings. My center stone is sapphire and people ask why I didn't get a diamond? WTF?! I didn't want a diamond!

I have a .5 carat engagement ring, and a .5 carat wedding band I can't wait to wear for real. FH says even though it is small, the diamond is flawless like me Smiley smile The picture is from when we first got our bands - they have since been sized properly.

Thankfully, I haven't shown my ring to assholes who'd say dumb things like what some of you have said. I don't consider my ring small but it's probably 1-1.5 tcw. Either way, my FH went and picked it out all by himself and the sentiment is what matters. Every one else is a hater so F them. Beautiful rings girls!

No seriously, ring judgement is a real life thing. He paid cash, which not many people are able to do. I mean, it was what it was budget wise at that point bc we knew we couldnt get into ring debt if we wanted to have a wedding. But we spent a lot of actual cash in my opinion.

I actually just mentioned the cost to my sister bc I was bitching about the matching band and her eyes got big and she was like woah that's more than mine and my ring is so much bigger. Who even knew. I don't know much about diamonds but per my appraisal (which is in my system at work) it says brilliant cut, color F-G (idk how that could be two?) And it VS1. Idk what that's means lol but it sparkles nicely

Edited to add: def not saying financing is wrong, it's just wasn't the right choice for us.

I've had the ring judgement too. "/That's/ an engagement ring?" But my ring is perfect to me. I just have no idea what kind of band to go with it. I'm terrible at things like this. Lol

That means it's in a good color category and it's very slightly included 1. There's internally flawless, VVS1&2, VS1&2, SI1&2, and I. IOW, you have a great stone!

That's the other thing, I'm not someone who does payments on things, so financing jewelry makes me raise my eyebrows.

I know FH put my ring on his card, but that was because of the cash back bonus we get on purchases. He paid it off in full at the end of the month at least.

Yeah, FH opened a credit card to pay for it but that is because it was 0% financing. He had the cash, but we were also buying a house that year and needed money for a down payment since my condo would not be sold in time. And he paid off his student loans that year. Plus we needed new furniture for the house since mine was all cheap (though we still use in other rooms!). So it was better for him to put it on a card so he would have the cash on hand in case something happened and he needed more.

FH opted to choose a stone with a higher color than clarity, because the Tolkowsky Round Brilliant diamond Excellent cut is done in such a way that you don't see any inclusions there may be, anyways. He bought a D, I1, but during the fixing and re-making process, the original store he bought it from chipped my center stone and didn't tell me and gave it back. I found out because I took it to another location that week to have it re-made and they told me a giant chip was in the stone. Their policy is to replace a stone with an equal or better stone. So I have a D, SI2 now. I can't see a single inclusion in there and I have super powers for spotting things wrong. I can't wait to have my ring back finally so I can go back to staring at it all day.

Mine is a half carat. It just looks bigger because it is a double halo.

FH financed my ring. He paid it off in under a year and didn't pay any interest. I get not wanting to make payments on anything...they are the devil...but neither of us have any regrets on how he went about paying for my ring.

My ring is tiny and I love it!

It's from Zales. I just found these pictures online, which are very similar, but I think mine is skinnier. Also my three stones are round, not square.

This one says it's .5 ct total. Mine is smaller and I still consider it too big. Haha I told FH I wanted something small and I think he did good!
