Whether it sounds like something funny, creates a funny first/last combo, or will have you saying "you know, like [blank]" for the rest of your life, what jokes are going to come after you change your name?

For everyone with the complicated Polish last names, first- y'all make so happy. Second- apparently there is nothing that will make it easier. Generations ago my some-number-of-greats-grandfather shortened our "complicated Polish last name" no idea how it would've been spelled, but pronounced Du-chin-ski, to Duke. It gets messed up on a daily basis. Dook, Dukes, duck, ducke, you name it!

Well, fh is named after his dad, and I happened to have the same first name as his mom, so once we are married our plan to take over their identities will be nearly complete.

My maiden name is Dietrich...have always had to say Diet Rich for spelling. My new last name will be Rohrs, like a lion.

We don't have anything funny with our last names or jokes that I have heard. We do have a lot of confusion...

My maiden name is Manske. I was previously married, my last name was Raysor. I did not change my last name when I got divorced - for various reasons. I had first husband's last name for 20 years. FH did not want my first husband's last name on our invites or associated with our wedding (understandably). So, after we got engaged I legally changed my last name back to Manske. In less than 3 months I will change it again, and be a Sandifer.

The confusion is - except my family - nobody knows me as a "Manske" so I have to keep explaining everything.

My current last name is Hierhager. As a teacher I'm usually Ms. H. Its changing to Pecore which looks easier but everyone has a hard time hearing the "puh" in the beginning. I told my students and they said "mrs. Popcorn? ?" It was cute. But all my fellow teachers joke that my name is getting shorter but not easier to pronounce!

I've had a difficult last name forever. FH is "Glass" like a drinking glass. So excited for the simplicity!!!

My maiden name was Johnson. DH's first name is Don. He jokingly suggested changing HIS name to Don Johnson (Miami Vice was on TV back then).

I've been oddly grateful that I took my ex-husbands name. My maiden name sounded like "stump" (like you cut a tree off, as my dad always explains, even though it's not spelled like that), and FH's is Groves. My current last name is thankfully not nature-related at all. If we have kids, certain names are completely ruled out: Forrest, Laurel, Willow, etc.
