Special stamps for save the dates? And general stamp advice needed

Amanda, on April 12, 2013 at 11:13 AM Posted in Planning 0 11

Now that save the dates are ordered, I need to think about how I'm going to deliver these bad boys. Our STDs are a standard size (maybe 3x5? I don't know, not huge) magnet, and the envelopes are just plain white. Will the normal American flag stamps be fine, or do people usually get fancy stamps for STDs? I was planning to get nice ones for the actual invitations, but anything that can be made less complicated/expensive/time-consuming, the better!

Also, and this is probably a really stupid question, but is there a way to buy stamps in bulk or at a discount somehow?

I'm not sure about buying stamps in bulk or a discount, but if it was me I would take one STD to your local post office and find out what they would suggest, my invitations I did the same and they gave me a nice stamp with a wedding cake on it for the outside invitation and the RSVP which was just regular postage I got stamps with roses on it

I got the wedding cake stamps with mine. Yes you can buy a book of stamps. I easily bought a book of 100 for my STDs.

Unfortunately, they are hardly ever discounted. Especially since the USPS is already leaking money. You can get them in bulk at any post office though. I bought 100 at the counter. And I wouldn't worry about making the STD ones pretty. No one really notices. I would have the card weighed though to make sure a regular stamp will be enough. I imagine a magnet has some weight to it.

I just bought a bunch of forever stamps. Our STDs are 3 x 5 magnets as well. They didn't require any additional postage

Perfect, thanks for all the tips! It shouldn't be any trouble at all to take one to the post office and buy a roll while I'm there.

If you have a Costco or Sams Club near you they sell large amounts of stamps too!

I bought regular FOREVER stamps but they were the pretty white flower ones. Just go in and ask for some pretty FOREVER ones. They are the same price and cuter then a flag I personally think.

USPS won't discount it but they should have wedding themed stamps.

I think Costco discounts a roll of stamps by a very small amount, not a lot. They do have the forever stamps, so if you aren't wanting anything fancy it may save you a little bit.

Also look at the USPS website. My local branch didn't have anything nice in stock so I ordered off their website. It looks like they just got their wedding stamps in, there are some really pretty ones. I think I'm going to order these for our invites:
