Southern BBQ Catering...What would you pay per person?

Lisa, on May 7, 2015 at 5:40 PM Posted in Planning 0 33

I just received my first quote for catering from a BBQ Catering Company. Our wedding is on the beach and I wanted something simple so thought "Why not BBQ?". When I look at the cost per person, it equates to $30 per person (a total of 40 people). Is this normal for chicken, pulled pork and brisket?

I would say that's a little higher than normal. I guess it depends on your caterer but I had BBQ for my college graduation party and it was a lot less than that.

Thanks for the responses...I think it's a little high but then again we're getting all of that meat as well as 3 sides (drinks not included). I'm waiting on another company to get back to me so I can compare the costs.

I would think it would cost half that.

Try Dickey's BBQ if you have one there! Ours, here in Northern California, does the same exact food for $11.50 a person! =) And, their food is amazing! =) eta: spelling

Our first quote was $20pp with a ton of other fees. We could not customize meats or sides for that price. We looked around and ended up going with a hole-in-the-wall place that our photographer recommended. The price is just under $8 a plate. A total steal!! We are doing pulled pork but get to choose our sides.

I'm getting pulled pork bbq, smoked chicken, sides, rolls, and tea for about 12 dollars a plate. We're using a local popular restaurant, they provide 2 waitstaff, set up/break down the buffet and everything. I do live in a cheaper, rural area, though. But even in a city, I wouldn't expect more than 20 bucks a plate. Thirty bucks a plate better be pretty damn good BBQ, like fine dining fancy bbq with gourmet sides.

Unfortunately, my venue charges an extra fee for going outside of their recommeded list otherwise I would look elsewhere. I love Dickey's BBQ too! I definitely agree that it better be amazing food for that price. I don't live where we are getting married so I have to rely on reviews and my soon to be mother in law to try the food for me. Luckily she has good taste but I would love to be able to experience all of this although there is still time.

We are using a place called Edley's BBQ in Nashville. They're charging $10 a person for meat, three sides, cornbread and biscuits, plates and silverware. And it's delicious!!

$30 seems high for bbq to me. How much is the penalty for going out of their preferred list?

We're doing BBQ with mac and cheese, brisket, and pulled chicken, plus a few sides, salad, and cornbread for $30pp. We have to use our vendor's catering though, and they just charge the same amount for any three-item buffet. It seems a little steep to me, but that's the kind of food we want. We don't have the option of using outside catering.

The fee is I think $200 and I know that may seem like a little but when you're on a tight budget, it's a lot of money (That could pay for our cake Smiley smile ). I'm hoping the other catering company will not be as much but being new at this planning stuff, I had no idea what to expect.

$30 pp seems high to me. I'm using Loveless Cafe in Nashville and they provide salad, fried chicken or bbq pork, 3 sides, biscuits, a dessert, and tea for $27pp. And they're a popular tourist stop.

You are doing 3 meats and 3 sides. Can you get a quote for 2 meats, sides and drinks and see what the difference is? I might be the brisket doing it to you.

I just received a quote from another catering company that does BBQ and the quote was approximately the same but this caterer took the time to explain the breakdown. The brisket was the issue and is approximately $5 a pound. My solution will be to go with the new catering company and take a poll when I send out the invites of what people are wanting to eat so that I don't get stuck ordering a ton of food that no one will eat.

It does sound a bit overpriced could you lower it from 3 to 2?

I am having pulled pork and brisket and I am paying about 28 per person so I would say that is about right since you are having 3 meats.

When I looked into it, I believe our local bbq was $14 pp. Two meats, three sides, rolls, endless tea/lemonade and two people for set up/breakdown.
