Song Suggestions for Parents 30 Anniversary dance @ Reception

Taylor, on May 1, 2013 at 2:13 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

So this is my first post on WeddingWire so please be nice to me lol. I was here for a wedding website, then I got stumped by something and needed suggestions I couldn't find online...

At our wedding Aug 10th 2013, my mother would like me to pick her and my dad a song to dance to for their anniversary. They got married Aug 20th 1983, so it will be 30 years. I loved the idea! Have something special for them since their anniversary date is so close and a tribute for all they have done for our wedding. They are paying for almost all of it.

I am just stuck on what song to pick. My dad isn't much of a music person, whenever I get in the car he has talk radio on, haha. But my mom on the other hand loves music. She's not so much country like I am, but she loves Mumford and Sons, Lumineers, Of Monsters and Men, Rob Thomas, Kings of Leon, no OLD stuff. That'll just make her feel really old and take her back in the day haha.

Please Help!

Check out Tim McGraw's "I Know How to Love You Well." We used that for the anniversary dance at my friend's wedding and it went over well.

It starts out saying "It's been a long time, since we walked that aisle together... and you became my wife," so I think it's good for that occasion Smiley smile

We're doing Into the Mystic by Van Morrison for the anniversary dance. Check it out and see what you think. Are there any songs that are special to your parents?

I was going to say why not use what their first dance was from when they were married but I guess that would count as old.

I was thinking "Through the Years" but I guess that's old too!

Welcome to WW, Taylor!! When I saw your title, I was going to ask you what they danced to at their wedding, but then I saw "no OLD stuff"!! hehe Your mom has good taste in music!!

If you haven't already checked it out, this site also has a HUGE list of songs (along the top tabs) for every wedding event imaginable. I think this could fall under the first dance category.

Offbeat Bride also has a list of songs that your mom would probably love.

Other suggestions: songs from the movie "Once", Sufjan Stevens, Arcade Fire. . .

They both were married once before, so their wedding was small, and it was a potluck style reception so I don't even think they had a first dance or she would have told me. Plus my mom was a little tipsy during the wedding haha.

That Tim McGraw song always makes me teary, and both my parents are cry babies when it comes to this wedding, so it might kill them to hear it haha. I like the song "Then" by Brad Paisley as well...

Oh! Or "Make You Feel My Love." It's originally Bob Dylan's, but Billy Joel, Garth Brooks and Adele have covered it. I love the song, it's so sweet... my high school/college boyfriend used to sing it to me all the time.

PS - your parents look fun! Smiley smile
