small rings, show me yours!

Laura, on April 7, 2013 at 10:23 AM Posted in Planning 0 41

I've seen posts like this before, but then people are posting one carat rings, I'm looking for .5 and under. My whole set is .25 carats. There are honestly times I kind of wish I'd gotten a diff one and it makes me feel disgustingly materialistic, but I sent my FH a few I liked online without knowing he was going to order one while he was still deployed overseas so I didn't get to see how it looked in person. I have tried tactfully bringing up the subject of maybe upgrading or trading in the future thinking he wouldn't be so hurt since I did pick it out, but I was wrong. I do really like it a whole lot better with the wedding band so I can deal with the engagement ring for a year. And it does have a lot of meaning to it just the fact that he kept telling me about multiple guys in his unit whose wives and girlfriends cheated on them during the deployment, and he bought me a ring in the midst of that. And I am disgustingly sentimental. Anyway, here's mine! Show me yours!

I truly believe its the thought and not the size. You can always upgrade in the future.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but you love your FH right...

so why does it matter what size ring you have? He bought that ring for you to show you that he wanted to commit the rest of his life to you! It shouldn't matter what size stone it is the only thing that should matter is that he bought it and loves you period.

In 10 years if you want to upgrade fine. But seriously there are bigger fish to fry then having a small stone on your finger. And it's really is a beautiful ring.

Thank you all. I should have mentioned it's less the size (the other ones I liked are all about the same size) and more just the shape I guess. I honestly don't really know what bothers me sometimes. But I do love my ring. I actually show it off proud that I didn't feel the need to ask him for a huge stone and I've actually had a guy friend say he hopes his girlfriend feels the same when it comes time for him to propose and that my FH is lucky I think that way. lol

Wow, I really like it! I would be happy with a ring like that. I dont know how many carats mine is or any information like that, I told him to skip the wedding band to save money though, so I will just wear the engagement ring and he can give it back to me during the ceremony.

I honestly think it is important to love your ring.

However I think there are many reasons and ways that you can love your ring. Examples... You could love it for the sentimental part. He proposed with THAT ring. But then you could love it for the style. It is what you always imagined your engagement ring to look like. You could be someone who loves it for the size of the rock, big or small. We have plenty of brides here who love their smaller diamonds because I big one would not be practical for them.

I think all of that is fine, and it's human nature to be a little "materialistic." I think as long as you are able to see the big picture and know that the ring is just a ring and a symbol and that the important thing is the commitment behind it, that is what really matters.

My diamond is 1.25 cts however it was my grandmothers (and my great grandmothers before that). The history and sentimental part is way more important to me than the size of the diamond.

Mine is under 1/3 of a carat. I really love it and can honestly say I wouldn't trade it for something bigger. It's a used/vintage ring we bought from etsy. Since I'm not a fan of the gemstone mining industry, I didn't want something new. I love the small diamond & it fits me perfectly.

My ring is pretty small too, but he picked it out all by himself and I love how it's kind of different- mine is kind of shaped like yours, Laura. I also like it better because I know it was something he could afford right now. I think both of ours will look especially nice after we get the wedding bands. Smiley smile

Side note- does anyone else think their hands look weird in closeup pics??? I never thought about it before trying to take a pic of my ring when we got engaged.

Here's mine (before having it sized) its only 1 ct total, I actually only wanted about a 1/2, I'm a very simple person and I like to spend money as logically as possible (plus I have very tiny fingers, size 4 to be exact) but FH saw this one and really liked it and thought I would too... He was right, I love everything about it Smiley smile

I honestly have no idea what the specifics are on my ring... i know he did a lot of research in the buying process in addition to selecting something we both would be happy with. he's pretty adorable.

I must ladies we have to be careful in what we post while coming from a place of good if its something that someone is feeling self conscious about a public scolding is not necessary. With that said here is mine.

I have no idea about the size or whatever, but my ring is certainly smaller than many of my friends'. And my wedding ring doesn't even have a center stone! But I'm thrilled, nonetheless. FI picked a ruby because it's my favorite stone, an antique from the shop where he volunteers, and a marquis stone because I love that shape.

My wedding ring is made up of three strands... one for me, one for FI, and one for God, who brought and will hopefully keep us together! ^_^
