Small destination wedding - need help!!

Dalal, on January 5, 2020 at 9:14 PM Posted in Planning 0 4

Hi there, my fiancé and I are considering a small (28 people including us) wedding abroad. Does anyone have any experience with this?? We're residents of the US and need to be married in a Catholic church. Totally open as far as what country it happens in, though we've been looking at Italy or Greece, mostly because I want to be near the ocean. We are in the SUPER early planning stages (only got engaged a week ago!) but we're thinking about doing it in October so we wanna get moving! Literally ANY advice helps!!!

What I do know is that you should get your marriage legally done in the home state as international laws have different rules. Do a symbolic ceremony there.

I agree with Kristen. My friend got married in...I want to say Barbados, or Belize...It's beautiful and has a B...She and her hubby did all the legal paperwork here the week before hand and then had their celebrations there. I tried planning mine in Bermuda and half way through planning stopped getting responses from the resort I was working with and ended up planning a whole new wedding locally, so my suggestion is to look for reviews or testimonials of vendors from previous newly weds!

    Hey there, Dalal!

Congrats on your engagement Smiley smile

As the PPs mentioned, in the community I’ve seen couples who are planning a destination wedding internationally typically have a courthouse wedding first to ensure there are no legal issues once they return home.

If you wish to have the wedding ceremony abroad, I would recommend working with a wedding planner to ensure everything runs smoothly and any legal concerns are addressed. There are some listed on the WeddingWire vendor directory you could reach out to for some pricing -

Having a catholic ceremony adds a challenging dimension as you would need to get permission from your home parish to marry elsewhere (and I understand it is not very frequently granted).
