sister trying to outdo me at my own wedding?!!!

Thecane428, on June 5, 2014 at 9:28 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 45

My wedding is next April and i have yet to shop for a wedding gown but my sister already knows what she is wearing. I have to admit we are competitive towards each other but when it was her wedding i allowed her to choose my bridesmaids dress because it was her day so I figured she would return the respect towards choosing something not bride related, (not that I even wanted to do that) The dress she wants to wear looks very similar to the dress shown here except it has a lace halter and more beading. i almost died when she showed me the picture. I said "you cant wear white" and she claimed it wasnt white in person that it was light peach. In my opinion if its too light in a picture to tell its a light peach, its too light!! I said i approved the dress but not the color but i don't even like the style. ;( its too much... i was considering bridesmaids but wasn't sure. I was willing to allow them to pick the dresses but now if I do that I know what she will pick...

That's very formal. If she's a bridesmaid I would pick their dresses.

Well this dress is way too formal for a garden wedding. She'll look ridiculous. Its an evening gown. Maybe explain to her that it's not appropriate for the setting and time of day of your wedding.

Yup, the actual dress is (light peach) very light with lots of beading on it, and formfitting. and i am pretty sure she plans on getting her hair and makeup done that day. so she will try to outdo me, i believe

People will probably roll their eyes and laugh at her, don't worry. She won't upstage you.

I don't know why? She's your sister. You said you've always been competitive. Why don't you ask her to wear something else?

Pick her dress and end the debate. Either she wears it or doesn't show

I agree, that is too formal for a bridesmaid dress, it looks like it could be a wedding dress even. I would say no and you pick out your bridal party dresses. Its your wedding not hers, she can suck it up for one day.

If you make one demand, please make it the bridesmaid dresses. I didn't at my first wedding and I've regretted it for 20 years, even though the marriage didn't work out.

I don't think it's a wedding dress if it's light peach. You sister said it was light peach all over. I think it's an evening gown or some kind of pageant dress.

Tell her it's WAY too formal for the style of wedding and she will look out of place. Or ask her to be a bridesmaid and choose the dress.

She will look so out of place w such a dress since your wedding is at a garden and restaurant. She will stand out in a bad way; ridiculous.

She is competing with you that dress could easily be mistaking as a wedding gown. Make her your MOH or BM and get short dresses for your BP.
