Should I wear my wedding dress at my "home" reception after destination wedding?

snowbride2be, on December 27, 2012 at 8:35 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

I'm having a destination wedding (within U.S.) and inviting close family and friends for the trip. I expect about 70 people to attend. I'm having a reception a month later at home, and expect about 300-350 guests. I want to wear my wedding dress to the reception. My fiancé says the guys won't be in their attire again for the reception. What's the rule of thumb on this? Will guests want to see me in my dress and should I feel comfortable wearing it to the reception?? Thanks!

I say wear it if you want. Lots of family might want to take pictures with you in it. And it might feel more "wedding reception like" if you're in the dress.

This is a good question I am curious to see the responses. I just asked my best friend this question today.

Formal etiquette suggests you should not wear your wedding gown to a reception that is more than a day or two after you are married, so Great Aunt Mathilde may object. Only you can decide how important that is to you (perhaps based on how many great aunts you have).

    Neat question.

One of my co-workers got married in Belize, than during the summer time they had a very informal reception where everyone was dressed more country (we live in Idaho) she cut up her dress short and wore cowboy boots with it. He just wore nice slacks and a colored shirt.

    It was so nice!

OK... so we are planning the same thing, but it will be more than a day or two after the "original" wedding (which will not be destination but a 3-4 hour drive).

We are planning on our ceremony/reception in Sept and due to work schedules etc the "other" reception (in my hometown) will be (I am hoping) within the month.

We had a 50th Anniversary party for my parents in Oct and at least 50 people there asked if we were going to have a reception there. We were thinking about it before that, but that pretty much solidified it.

My parents are in their 70's so.. some of our relatives and some of their friends as well would love to celebrate with us.

I was planning on wearing my dress then as well with my thought being if you are going to spend the money - wear it more than once and he would wear his suit.

I did not realize there was a time frame, but am interested as well

FH's brother and sister in law had a DW and then a reception at home. The entire bridal party wore their attire. Since they had a beach wedding, the guys were in linen pants and a Hawaiian shirt, so it was easier for them to wear again, as opposed to a tux or something. She wore her dress though, and so did the BM's and it was really nice.
