Should I fire my wedding planner?

Summyya, on February 21, 2015 at 9:41 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 40

My wedding planner has been very unreliable. I understand that the majority of her job is done closer to the wedding. But over three occasions she has not showed up to appointments or been late. The first time we were scheduled to meet at starbucks, after waiting for 10 minutes, she hadn't made it there. I decided to call her and she had totally forgotten about the appointment she had set. Luckily she was in the area and could be there within the hour. The second time she completely forgot, I waited once again for 15 minutes, gave her a call. Her response, oh my god, my (grown daughter) had her wisdom teeth pulled and has been a drama queen I totally forgot. Today was our tasting, we got a lot of snow in Indy between tonite and this morning. She sent me an email asking if the tasting was still on. I replied yes, I haven't heard from the venue other wise and we planned to be there. Yes the side streets were bad but the highways had been plowed. I get an email an hour before the tasting.

I didn't get a wedding planner as I like to do event planning myself. But if I were to hire one I would expect her to know what is going on and not miss scheduled appointments. If I were you I would fire her. One thing to miss a meeting if she told you, but to just not show up. I so not think that is ok. I would be worried she would flake on the wedding day. Do you have an venue coordinator? If so you may not even need to find a new one. Our venue coordinator would do everyone the wedding planner would do day of anyways.

Summyya, im sorry, but im not going to make it today. In really sorry, but I've had some major computer problems and i have a bridal show tomorrow and i have to have 300 sashes done by tonight and I do them on the computer now and my computer died. Ive been trying since Wednesday to get this worked out. After Tuesday of this week i can go over there any day and any time of day. Again im so sorry, i hope this doesn't cause any problems.

I would have understand her saying I wont make it due to the roads, but not that you don't have your shit together for tomorrows Bridal show. She's just doesn't seem reliable, and I'm starting to worry if she's going to deliver for my day.

Her contract stays, she will assist with contracts, suggest vendors, set up and take down, construct centerpieces, I just pay the whole sale price of the flowers (I can use any supplies she has). Her selling feature was that I would be a guest at my wedding. But I booked my vendors on my own, as of today she has done nothing.

Would you send her an email stating we need to talk in person. And in person tell her that I'm concerned about the time and availability you have for my wedding.

Or just say F it and fire her now.

I'm 99 days out. I will have to hope I can find someone else or do it all myself. What would you do???

Fire her now, don't even meet her...call or email. She sounds completely unreliable.

Eta: hire a doc and call it a day.

I'd fire her. Sounds like she's proven enough that she's unreliable.

If you've already hired most of your vendors, you might want to just hire a day of coordinator?

Fire her. Keeping her will just give you more stress! A wedding planner can't be disorganized. The point of having one is to help you be organized and get everything ready for the day.

I agree with Lara- at this point hire a DOC

Fire her. If this is the way she is now, this is the way she'll be forever.

BOOM! what everyone else said... But how much money would you be out? I'd definitely hire a DOC if you still have it in your budget. Explain your situation to your new person and see clear wants/needs/expectations.

Awww. I'm so sorry but I think at this point you've done half her job and she's flaking. She's totally unprofessional and the audacity of her to basically say I brushed you aside to try and sucker more brides into my poor service and unprofessionalism is appalling. Smh. I definitely agree with the DOC recommendations too, since they typically handle everything the month of. Best of luck.

Yikes, fire her! She sounds wayyy to unprofessional. How do you forget meetings? I mean that's her job- time is something not to be played with. I'm sure you can find a DOC and they usually take over about a month before confirming all your vendors all good to go. I'm sure you got this! Good Luck! Sorry you had to deal with that flakey planner though :/

Ugh completely unprofessional, please fire her.

Perhaps you can recoup everything not just your deposit as she sounds to be completely useless. It's hard to imagine her negotiation vendor contracts if she can't even keep appointments.

It makes me so mad for you because my planner has been a God send. He makes and schedules all of our vendor appointments, he is always punctual, in fact he's usually early and even though he's incredibly busy he always makes me feel like I'm his number one priority.

He's there to make sure I'm on track you should never have to be calling behind your planner to make sure they are on track. That is completely ridiculous!

He has made my wedding planning stress free and tons of fun. He get's excited with me when we visit venues and he sees my face light up and I look forward to every single meeting we have because I know we are going to have an absolute blast.

I'm telling you all of this because I feel this is what having a competent wedding planner should feel like and its an experience I feel you are being robbed of right now

Even if you do lose the $$$, (which you should not) it might be worth it for your piece of mind.
