Shotgun wedding??

My fiancé & I would love to get married this December on a very strict timeline & budget. Venue isn't a problem and neither is food as we will be providing it ourselves. Any brides have advice to cut costs & time?

Seconding everything that StPaulGal said. I'm having a small wedding and then a catered reception at our house with only immediate family. I'm still getting a dress, hired a "real" wedding photographer, hired a H/MUA, and all that jazz. I forwent the bridal party and don't think there will be a shower/bachelorette party, but the rest of it is just as much a wedding as anyone else's, and FH and I could not be more excited.

I guess hosting your guests properly and safely is "throwing away money".

Right = serving safe professionally prepared food

Wrong = cutting corners by serving potentially dangerous food to guests

    Pretty simple.

Rachel, you're new here. One thing to get a grip on early is that it's no longer "your day" when you involve other people. Then you have a responsibility to them, you know, your guests, your nearest and dearest.

I eloped at the courthouse and wore a wedding gown. We went to dinner afterward and I kept my gown on.

So sorry to offend you all! I was just letting her know this day is about her so ultimately her decision. Not yours.

We're not offended. You're just incorrect.

No shit, Rachel. Of course it's her decision. But we're trying to give her the advice (that's not dangerous) that she asked for. No one here said it wasn't her choice to make.

I understand where Rachel is coming from, if the reception is only family & friends its not much different then making a meal at your house to serve at a family gathering.

Aubrie, do you REALLY want to be cooking the day of your wedding? Will those helping you REALLY want to be doing that either? What about clean up?

Don't you want to treat your guests to a day where they won't have to lift a finger?

There are some really inexpensive catering options out there, I promise.

ETA: try looking at local BBQ and Italian places.

Aubrie k! Exactly!! It's no different than a holiday dinner! Does everybody usually get food poisoning on Christmas or something?

But yes I am new, tried this out but I'm gonna delete this. I feel nothing but attacked for giving an opinion isn't that what we're here for? Guess not.

@rachel Or thanksgiving! I completely understand.

And my venue is my aunts house, she has several acres of land & horses!

Rachel, just no. no. No-one will be keeping an eye on the potato salad while vows are being said, and the cold chicken is going to be warming up nicely to room temperature. What about during photos? Who will be watching the congealing lamb chops?
