Secrets vs. Sandals... **Opinions Needed*

Liddy, on May 30, 2012 at 2:39 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 23

FH and I are wanting to go somewhere warm and tropical for our honeymoon and are leaning toward an all-inclusive resort. Have any of you been to either of these resorts? What do you suggest??

Our budget is kind of tight - how much did you pay??

I haven't been to either, but my friend and her BF went to a Dream's resort and LOVED it. And I've found some really good deals for Dreams Resorts on Expedia and Travelocity.

Sorry, I know that wsn't one of the ones you were leaning towards!

DH and I are travel junkies. I am also a travel research junky. My life would be perfect if I could plan weddings and be a travel agent. We usually go to a tropical all inclusive yearly. Prior to me, DH was a major Sandals fan. Once I taught him that you can get more bang for the buck, he changed his opinion. I have been to Sandals many moons ago and stayed at Secrets Silver Sands for our honeymoon.

In all honesty, you get way more bang for your travel buck at Secrets. In order to get room service or even a filled fridge at some Sandals resorts, you have to seriously upgrade your room. Even an entry level room at Secrets has room service, unlimited a la carte dining, an a la carte lunch option, etc.

Since you mention Sandals and Secrets, I will assume you are considering Jamaica as a destination. Check the weather for that area then. Also,if you are looking at Jamaica, give Iberostar Grand Rose Hall a look. It is allegedly very luxurious.

Trip Advisor is a great source.

Secrets ALL THE WAY. With Secrets, its all-inclusive and you don't need reservations for dinner. Sandals looked a little ran down to me.

We paid less for Secrets too. 7 days/6 nights including round trip air was like $2800 total.

Depending on where you would like to go, would depend it on what resort

you would want. I am a Certified Sandals Specialist, there is no cost to use me,

and I have also sent many couples to Secrets Resorts. There are also many options that would allow you to put down a minimum deposit, and would lock in your air and hotel, I have already booked several clients on wedding wire, please

feel free to email me *********@*****.*** or call me anytime 215-450-8334,

and would loe to discuss what you like to do, what your budget is, and work with in that!

Liddy - I will echo what some of the others have said -- Sandals will be more expensive because to get anything really nice you have to upgrade to one of their higher room categories. The less expensive rooms look nothing like the photos you see on the web site or brochures.

If you are looking at Jamaica, check out the Couples resorts. I prefer those to Sandals, and my client always come back raving.

If you are looking at Mexico, check out the Secrets and Excellence properties. Both are adults-only all-inclusives where you get a lot of bang for your buck.

We are also going to Secrets - St. James in Montego Bay. Never been before, but we liked the reviews and we got similar pricing on Expedia to what the other ladies posted here, somewhere around $**** for 6 days/7 nights. We are very excited!

@Mrs. Seedes, I bet I'm not the only one that would love to hear more about it and see some of your pics!

I'll give you girlies a rundown of what I recommend. We stayed in the upgraded suites so I'm not sure if it will all be the same.

-The first night you are there book dinner at the hibachi place for the teppe(whatever) tables.

-They give you a free dinner on the beach..book that as well as soon as you get there. We got the shrimp/steak dinner and I still have cravings for it.

-My DH isn't a fan of trying new food, therefore, he kept avoiding the "french" restaurant Bordeaux. We ended up going our final night with 6 other couples we met while there. Delicious dinner! Probably the best restaurant dinner we had.

-You MUST, MUST, MUST eat off of the jerk chicken cart. Be sure to get the magic sauce. He will be on the sidewalk along the beach between St James and Wild Orchard. Next to him is the coconut guy...take your coconut to one of the many bars and get some rum in it Smiley smile

-DH carried and tipped to those who gave great service (which was everyone).

-Take the free snorkeling excursion they have at the resort. You just have to get there a half hour before. It was so much fun. We had a waterproof digital camera and got some awesome shots. We also had fun taking the kayaks out.

-One night a week (I believe it is Wednesday) the outside market comes into the resort near the restaurant. WAIT for that...don't go to the market in my opinion. We went out to the market and I bought nothing, however, I bought a few things at the market in the resort.

-We went on the excursion to the Dunns River Falls. It was a lot of fun. Take water shoes and a waterproof camera. They have some great picture spots.

Any other questions, just let me know. I LOVE talking about our honeymoon. Now I'll try not to overload you with pics Smiley winking
