Second hair trial, would you pay?

FutureMrs.G, on March 1, 2017 at 7:05 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 34

I had a hair trial last weekend, and it wasn't bad, it just wasn't what I wanted. I made it clear before I left and asked her if we could make adjustments. She said on the day of she'd adjust it and it would be fine. I got home and the updo she did fell out within a few hours. Honestly I liked her work but that made me nervous. I texted her right away and asked if we could schedule another trial so I could make sure it would be right and it would last. She took 3 days to get back to me and said yes. I replied back and asked if I would have to pay again, and she took over 24 hours to respond. She said normally she'd charge $75 again, but she'd take $20 off for me and do it for $55. She did both my cousins weddings and did a great job. Would you a)pay for the second trial b)explain you feel you shouldn't have to pay again or c) find a new stylist? I'm torn. I feel like she didn't really listen to me the first time also.

If she did a bad job I would absolutely ask for a new trial free of charge. If she is unwilling to help you out then I would start looking for a new stylist.

You don't want your hair falling down on the day of your wedding and if she can't do it right in a low pressure trial then I wouldn't trust her on the day of my wedding without another look at her work.

Definitely a tough situation. Did you not like it because of her work or because you realized your inspo wasn't quite right? I think if she did it bad then it should be free but if you just changed your mind then you should have to pay. If it's the former then I would see if it's free and if not take your business elsewhere.

Tell us what you told her, then show us a picture. I usually feel like if you get a second trial, you should pay for it, but if it wasn't what you told her, then I can see trying to negotiate a free second trial.

Do your cousins have the same type of hair as you? Maybe theirs stayed better because they have a different hair type. But a pro stylist should have known the style wouldn't stay and made adjustments accordingly.

Do you already have her booked for your wedding/ would you lose money besides the first trial payment if you went somewhere else? The way she's been taking so long to answer you could predict how she'll be around the time of the wedding too..

Second inspiration. I asked for it to go to the side with curls like 1st picture and a braid from this picture

I would pay for a second trial. If that one was a flop too, i would find someone else!

Sooo...My hair stylist specifically told me that the trial is just a quick run to make sure I like the basic idea of the look I was going for...

And for me it was just to see if I liked her work and thought she could do what I wanted.

It took her about 15 min to pin it all up, and I went home and took it out.

I'm not saying thats what she did...But my girl was up front about the fact that on the day of it would be smoother and held in place better than for the trial..

That's very pretty. What part of it did you not like? I can see where maybe you would want a more prominent braid or something, but other than that the only real concern I would have is it not staying for any length of time.

The braid was pretty much non existent, and it felt pretty messy and unpolished. Her work was okay, I just felt she kind of did her own thing and didn't really listen. Also most of the curls had fallen out of the pins after about 4 hours.

It looks pretty, but you're going to need clip in extensions to actually get the full look you are going for in your inspiration photos. And to help the curls stay better.

I got mine at Sallys Beauty Supply. They're real human hair and I think cost about $100, just had them help me match my hairs color well.

I'd pay for another trial at $55. To me thats cheap. And I'd go to Sallys and get clip ins that I'd bring with me. Just tell her you weren't happy and it fell out shortly thereafter, the curls didn't stay, you felt it was a little more on the messy side and not the clean look you're going for, and that you are hoping the extensions will give you the fullness you want and ask her to try harder to make it stay.

Just wanted to add that I went through 3 hair trials. And ended up with extensions at the suggestion of my hair dresser : )

And that those inspiration photos definitely have extensions in their hair!

With extensions, see the difference in the curls holding? My real hair just doesn't hold well. But the extensions made all the difference.

I think it may depend on hair types. I don't have a trial scheduled yet. My hair is down to my butt, baby fine and thick. I can barely get it to stay in a ponytail all day. I will be super impressed if a hairdresser can get it to stay long enough for the ceremony. But I do completely understand. When you have a vision you want it at least close to that vision. My suggestion would be to give her another try. If you are unsatisfied with the second trial the find another hair dresser. Tell her your concerns up front, and your expectations. If it doesn't match up then try someone else. Or ask an opinion of a hair dresser for options to help it to meet your standards.

I'm not sure about the pay, but I really like the way she styled your hair! If you're not 100% satisfied I would definitely do another run through though!

Oh no sorry that happened. Idk, if it were me with the info you provided, I would be nervous right away too. Overall I think I would look around for someone else. Your makeup should stay on for the majority of your event. You still may need to touch up tho. She should of offered to meet with you again for free , that's what made me think to find someone else even more. Good luck, hope you get it figured out soon. Keep us posted
