Second hair trial, would you pay?

I had a hair trial last weekend, and it wasn't bad, it just wasn't what I wanted. I made it clear before I left and asked her if we could make adjustments. She said on the day of she'd adjust it and it would be fine. I got home and the updo she did fell out within a few hours. Honestly I liked her...

I had a hair trial last weekend, and it wasn't bad, it just wasn't what I wanted. I made it clear before I left and asked her if we could make adjustments. She said on the day of she'd adjust it and it would be fine. I got home and the updo she did fell out within a few hours. Honestly I liked her work but that made me nervous. I texted her right away and asked if we could schedule another trial so I could make sure it would be right and it would last. She took 3 days to get back to me and said yes. I replied back and asked if I would have to pay again, and she took over 24 hours to respond. She said normally she'd charge $75 again, but she'd take $20 off for me and do it for $55. She did both my cousins weddings and did a great job. Would you a)pay for the second trial b)explain you feel you shouldn't have to pay again or c) find a new stylist? I'm torn. I feel like she didn't really listen to me the first time also.

@blue eyed, this was just for hair not makeup.

If she'd polished the style she did on you, it would actually look very nice but I agree that it doesn't look well done.

If it fell out in just a few hours, I'd look for someone else. That says to me that she's not experienced in formal hair styles.

I agree with getting extensions. It's not going to look just like the picture because you basically have different hair.

It would be hard for me to want to pay another $55 after not getting what I want the first time. I understand that it may not be as "sleek" as it will the day of but I still feel like they should do a good enough job at the trial that it doesn't fall out!

I think that the discount is fair. You are paying for her time. The time she spends doing your hair is time she's not making money with another client.

Do you usually curl your hair? My hair does not hold a curl, and mine would fall soon after as well.

I think your main problem is you don't have enough hair to get the style you expected. I think her discount is completely fair, but you should get extensions or settle for something else.

If you tell her you don't want to pay her, she'll take care of your next question -- find another stylist.

You chose her, and you owe her for the time she was working on your hair and not another client's hair. That's ethical and obvious. She even negotiated with you (I wouldn't have -- my fee is my free). If you don't like her work, find someone else. It's called a trial for a reason, but it's not called a free trial You owe her for her time.

My hair stylist wouldn't charge for a redo if I wasn't happy with it. I've had her color my hair for years and one time it wasn't the color I wanted and she fixed it for free. And I know she would do the same with the hair trial if I didn't like it or was unhappy about how it looked. And if it fell apart that quickly that would have me really worried... I think maybe try another trial and see if she does better but if she doesn't then I would be looking for someone else ASAP.

Wedding styles are a different animal. If you're going into regular stylist and asking her for a color, if the result sucks, of course she's going to want to fix it. She doesn't want to lose you as a client. A wedding trial? That's a different animal. You have to pay for it.

I agree . She should have polished it up looking exactly how it would look day of your wedding. It does look sloppy and those curls could be much better. More crisp. Also her braid needs some cleaning up. I wouldnt expect to pay for another trial if she did it sloppy the first time. Otherwise id go elsewhere and make that a first priority to check with another stylist about her charges.

Thanks everyone! I'm going to try a new stylist on Friday to see if it comes out better. It wasn't so much that it didn't look exactly like the inspiration pics, just that it was messy and she didn't really even try to do a braid. I don't want to wear extensions so I know it won't be as full as the pictures. I'll update this weekend!
