Say a little prayer for you 🎶🎵

Amanda , on March 22, 2019 at 3:11 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 15
So my best friend (and bridesmaid) is a musical theater actress. We got the idea for her to sing “Say a Little Prayer for you” after the speeches, with hopes that others would join in (a la My Best Friends Wedding). We used to love to watch wedding movies/tv shows when we were in high school, and thought this would be a fun way to embrace our fun and goofy side! My worry is that no one will get the reference and will just think it’s weird. How many of you are familiar with it? It’s my favorite scene in the movie! https://youtu.be/3ilzgrbnino

Does she want to sing? This is her job, she might not want to do it on a night off.

I LOVE THAT MOVIE!!! So much so, I have the soundtrack.....well "had" the soundtrack back when cds were a thing, lol. I think it's a cute idea, but I wouldn't bank on people "joining in." As long as you're okay with the chance that she will end up being the only one singing (not saying that WILL happen), then I say go for it.

Yes, she is more than happy to do it! We’ve both been performers our whole lives, and this is exactly the kind of thing people expect to happen when we are together!

Gotcha, then let her sing. But I agree with PP. It will probably be more of a performance than people joining in.

I think enough will get the reference that if you want to do it, it would be worth it. I knew it without the YouTube clip. Even if people don't get it, I'm sure someone at their table would and can explain it to them.

It's better than what my friend's H did which is he and his groomsmen sang Afternoon Delight (a la Anchor Man) as his wedding vows and those who didn't get the reference were quite horrified (many who did get the reference were equally horrified because this is what he said instead of vows).

Oh yikes 😆 that’s what I’m hoping, that even the people who don’t know it will think it’s cute. I just realized after talking to some friends that not as many people know this movie as I thought, but hoping if we do it at least some will join in!

If you're worried about people getting the reference, then maybe you could find a way to make it super obvious? My first thought was to play the video clip with a projector or something, or maybe write up a little something to say before singing that will make the reference more obvious, like tying in the name of the movie or iconic quotes?

Never saw the movie, but I love the idea!

If you want others to join in, let some people know to help out scattered throughout the venue. And if the words to the song were somewhere all the better. Good luck

Thanks! I was hoping to get an opinion from someone who wasn’t familiar with the movie 😊

    I LOVE this idea, Amanda!!

Catherine had a great suggestion, I would definitely let a few people in on the secret who are sitting throughout the venue so they know to join and then this will encourage everyone else to sing along! Even if someone doesn't know the movie scene, this is a pretty popular song!!

Is this your favorite rom-com scene?!
